I talk to a lot of truckers and I've been trying to figure out this whole chains vs no chains thing with them. First off, chains are not a total game changer, especially if the truck is empty which is the case half the time. With chains on, and empty cargo, the truck just bounces and breaks the chains over and over. The other day, we had a guy dropping 50,000 lbs then having to drive back to Idaho. He was pissed that they'd put him in a single drive axle truck and he had already shredded one pair of chains. This was during a classic shitstorm on I70 where I had just passed 10 trucks stuck on Silverthorne hill.

I deal with a few truckers a week at work. I usually try to ask a few questions and get their perspective. Some are pretty sharp and know wtf they are doing. Others not so much. Usually pretty good dudes who are just trying to get around in a big ass truck in the middle of winter. Not a job I'd really want.

why not go skiing, go for a hike, get a cheap room, do something.............. I can't imagine sitting in a car for that long and not going anywhere hang out for the day and jump in the car at 10 or 11 at night and fly home

I guess If I had a car with a tv and all kinds of bullshit to keep me busy it might be different............. but

Keep your yuppie ass down in Brown Town and we'll all be better off.

Sunday. 4pm. Snow. 100+ miles of I70 travel.
I70 bites even the best of us, but this is one way not to stack the chips in your corner.
You should have warned her Kevo!

I did warn her. She and my gf told me I was being a pessimist. They both firmly believes that the drive would be fine because Google said it would be 2 hours 29 minutes.

Friend called her roommate in Boulder to confirm that I was being too pessimistic. He looked it up on Google maps too and said that I was being overly concerned, so friend sat in her car for 7 plus hours.

Not really. I had a great weekend skiing and catching up around the house. I just try and represent the view that while change is inevitable, not everyone likes new and fancy. Half broke and honky tonk has it's advantages.

    .

Yeah denver was waaay better back when 5 points was an unsafe dump.... when lodo was a bunch of abandoned deteriorating warehouses and parking lots, when there were gang turf wars in City Park, when our economy was almost entirely based on the oil and natural gas industry (and the associated booms and busts). Soooo much better when there were no bike paths around the city, and no light rail or public transit into union station and around the city.

I suppose by your logic if denver was more like Detroit that would be a good thing? Since a vibrant growing city is such a terrible thing??

I meant Apache, who had a large presence in Colorado until people named Mitchell arrived. Granted - I don't think the Apache lived in the I-70 corridor, so they probably don't have anything to complain about.

Apparently lots of people were still trying to get into I70 from Silverthorne past midnight last night. That is fucked up.

7+ hours from BC to Boulder? She should have gone north through Cameron Pass lol.
Amazing to think she could have skied Jackson Hole, then driven one hour longer than yesterday to get home.

Sorry if I hurt your feelings. It was a rant in the heat of the moment and yeah I don't own the place so what right do I have to bitch?

And no Apaches ever around here - they were more NM/AZ inhabitants I believe. Utes west and Arapaho east.

I would assume that at some point "get a hotel" isn't possible anymore -- especially during prime ski season. What else do you do if you need to get home to sleep?

"I like it, so it must be better!" I think trying to fit into your sister's Jordache jeans from '86 is affecting your critical thinking. You know that no everyone always has the same opinion right?

Did you ever sample the nightlife of Denver pre-2000? It wasn't all bad. White kids weren't getting shot outside Larimer Lounge.

Yeah I was about 2.5 hours from BC to Denver, but I also left BC at 10:30 because I'm not a moron.

Congrats by moving here you've fucked the quality of life for everyone. /rant
You'll be amazed what an extra 100 miles or so from Denver, will do for your for your attitude.

There's this other road to the south that I still think should be widened into a real highway from Breck to Morrison so people have 2 options of getting home and relieving the stress on I70 on weekends like this (which is becoming more and more regular).

Pretty sure the Arapaho were the original weekend warriors. Always stealing that fresh Ute pow and jamming up the game routes. The Apache just rode Wolf Creek alone even though they did their best to tell the Arapaho how much snow they got.

I've been saying this for years.... it wouldn't take much (comparatively speaking) to make it a viable option for the southern half of the Front Range, or as a second option when I-70 becomes a clusterfuck.

Exactly. Would it make the drive 1:15? No, but come on. This is beyond ridiculous. I can't imagine having kids in the car on a night like that, and public schools starting back up today.

weekend rando race brought in a band of Navajo. Fended off the raid by heading further into the hills.

Pretty sure that stfu is correct on this one. There were apache in Colorado. But it was before it was Colorado.

A couple of years ago, it took 2 friends 8 hours to get from Keystone to Boulder. 3 hours just to get from Keystone to the I-70 on ramp. WTF??? But he had a plane to catch in the morning, so spending the night in Summit wasn't an option.
