And dasblunt, stop telling everyone about the secret right passing lane.

The phenom isn't unique to I70. Back in SoCal I called the far right lane my PPL (personal passing lane). Off at the exit and back on again was a nice little technique out there too.

When it's bumper to bumper on and off is a shit move. They'd not get in in front of me.

Passed maybe 30-40 cars in Keystone the other day. They were all sitting in the right lane, even at the stop light. Weirdest thing. The drive through Keystone is probably the most dangerous part of the county this time of year. So many left turns onto the highway with no stop lights. Shuttles are always just pulling into traffic. And there's a high percentage of fucking idiots.

Who the hell puts the HOV lane on the right?

The same people who designed the awesome 2 lane merge right into a traffic circle that backs up for miles every morning? I think Aspen traffic pisses me off more than I-70. At least I expect it on I-70.

The official reason that the Aspen/RFV HOV lane is on the right is so that RFTA buses can more easily merge.

If we want to start discussing the traffic issues at the Aspen entrance/exit, that is a completely separate thread.

It's based on the reality that the road is filled with bald tires, no 4WD/AWD, truckers without chains, under the influence bros and Dale Earnhardt wannabes who feel it's their constitutional right to make it from Dillon to C470 in 60 minutes, rain or shine. That is what I'm worried about.
This is the crux of my approach as well - recognition of who's on the road and not pretending that they don't exist.

Sidebar: some of these comments remind me of Seinfeld's observation that people who drive more slowly than you are morons, and those who drive more quickly are obviously maniacs. it's all about "me" after all and I get to set the standards :-(

Duly noted. BTW, I believe it's "maniac" and not "idiot", but my point remains ...

The merge is actually at Buttermilk. Avoid it by taking Woody Creek or better yet, the bus.

    OFFICIAL I70 BITCH THREAD....

This is why we can't have nice things.

The sooner we move to self driving cars or mass transit, and remove the moron's and maniac's aggro and ego from the equation, the better.

Oh yeah, highway 6 runs in both directions right to the eastern-most parking lot at Loveland Valley,, so all you fuckwits moving into the left lane at the Valley lodge or sooner are doing it wrong, especially when a POV or shuttle tries to drive west in the lane you've blocked driving east, ignoring the two-way traffic signs.

The merge and the circle are all part of the same clusterfuck so it's just semantics.

As for taking the bus, I'm all about it. But when I'm in Aspen, I'm skiing backcountry so the bus doesn't work very well.

I don't give a fuck about being passed, but where is wb traffic supposed to go when you're cunting things up by driving in the wrong direction in their lane? Maybe you can start a campaign on Loveland's fb page to get all their shuttle drivers fired cunt.

Not really, just the majority of drivers. The drivers are from all over; the one common thread is that they all suck while driving in Colorado.

The skiing and biking suck too. Nothing to see here folks; move along.

This is true. I went to Ouray to ice climb and get away from ski crowds this past week. The Ouray old guard (climbing guides, ice park employees) were all talking about how crowded it is, even 6 hours from Denver. They said they had never seen anything like the crowds this year. In addition, it is getting warmer here. It has rained in December in 4 of the past 5 years in Ouray and the ice park is in serious danger of no longer being viable because of warming temps. What used to be a 3 month ice season down there is now a 4-6 week ice season. In the next decade it may be too warm.

Colorado has turned into a massive shit show in the last 5 years. It is absolutely not worth moving here.

1:22 to Copper from my house in Stapleton this AM. I Left at 7:01, well past too late, but it was New Year's Day and perfect roads. Coming back it took 1:28. Left at 1:10. Waited no more than 90 seconds to get on a lift. No complaints here.

perfect roads today, express was open, and never touched my brakes from 40 to C470.

Jeez Kevo, it's not that bad. I think the longest lift line I had yesterday was 15 seconds.

Ouray has always been crowded. Funny thing is that you pass a lot of great natural ice on the way to Ouray, not to mention the Lake City ice park which is only crowded when WSCU has a class there...

Old timers / old guard love to bitch about how things used to be better.
If we're humble bragging about yesterday, lift lines were nowhere to be found.
