Since when did cops stop actually identifying a weapon being present (let alone being drawn, in broad fucking daylight no less) before opening fire? This is another continuation of the "anything's possible" strategy for understanding conflict. Had we used this mentality during the cold war, we'd all be dead.

Police approach a black guy, thinking he is a wanted guy named "Michael". Problem is, this guy is named Patrick, and he tells them that twice. Cops don't believe him, but never ask him for ID. They tell him they have an arrest warrant for him, he asks to see it. They Taze him instead. Cops then lie to his neighbors, telling them that they asked him for his ID 4 times (when the body cam shows the cops NEVER asked for his ID). Poor guy is now facing a 7 year prison sentence for Obstruction, when he was minding his own business, correctly identified himself to the police when asked what his name is, and when he asked to see the warrant they claimed to have they refused to show it to him.

Lawsuit against former Utah trooper Lisa Steed going to trial
Ex-trooper is accused of targeting minorities and arresting people who were not drunk.

The lawsuit has three plaintiffs. The lead is Thomas Romero. Steed pulled him over Sept. 10, 2011, while he was driving to his home in Layton. Steed told Romero she had stopped him because he swerved and then accused him of being intoxicated, which he denied.

Steed asked Romero to perform a field sobriety test. Steed told him he had failed and asked him to take a breathalyzer test and later took a blood sample as he was booked into the Davis County Jail.

Those tests, as well as a blood test he had taken at Davis Hospital after posting bail, all showed no evidence of drugs or alcohol in his system. The case was eventually dismissed, but Romero spent about $6,000 fighting it. He lost his truck, which contained work tools, clothing and other personal items, because he could not afford to pay the fee after it was impounded.

Plaintiffs' attorneys have accused Steed of targeting racial minorities and people in old, used cars.

I'm no criminal courtroom dentist, and this is my home jurisdiction so I'm a bit ashamed to say I'm not clear on the procedure, but I know in many jurisdictions when charged with murder (or any other crime) you can still be found guilty of a lesser crime (2nd degree murder, manslaughter, etc.) that the defendant's actions satisfy the elements of that lesser crime if the jury finds that an element of the highest charged crime is not supported by the facts.

So no, it's not really a strategy to charge him or anyone else for that matter with a more severe crime as a way to circumvent justice. For a much better explanation of this look up Hamilton County Ohio prosecutor Joe Deters comments on a very similar case out of Cincinnati (that I've been following with interest online) where a white University of Cincinnati cop shot and killed an unarmed black motorist. Deters charged him and explained in great detail how they plan on aggressively prosecuting the officer. Trial should be starting soon now that I think about it.

There are many of these. They Shoot the fleeing driver, and then claim he tried to run you over thing. Has been a common practice for some time now.

I do not spend my time scouring the internet looking for this stuff, but (To ME) it has surfaced as a disturbing trend. They are so many documented instances of Police shooting where they always say (He Tried to run me over) = I think more than half of them are total BS.

I am happy to see some of them being called out.

Its like the stand your ground nonsense. You had every available option to get out of the way, were in no danger, but felt it was less tiresome to just shoot the driver.
