Never been. As an east coaster, don't get it. Windward Islands are just fine.

Kauai sucks, don't go. Please.
With the underpass project in vail starting....that's going to be painful E and W bound for awhile.

what is the underpass project? I'm never over that way because I don't want to be called tunnel trash by benny.

I had to read about it too... underpass between the frontage roads between main vail and west vail... will make head on traffic on the interstate. Probably going to cause some peak traffic backups during the summer... problems on trips to boat/bike west of vail.

about 8 hours to get from Vail to Aspen. Thankfully we had leftover pizza in the car and took a leak before we head out.
The girl behind us ran out of gas and there were people taking a leak in the median. We didnt move at all for about 3 hours.
Getting back to Denver from Aspen wasnt as bad. We were waiting for them to open the road and use the pilot cars at 4Pm.
Like clockwork. Warm for three days, then a storm moves in, dropping snow onto warm pavement. Temp drops rapidly, wind blows, the game of I70 bumper cars begins. Road shuts down.
Two level roadway is my answer.

Wait. What is the purpose of this underpass?
In all seriousness, is this for pedestrians or vehicles?

Both.
I'm no traffic engineer but it seems an overpass would be cheaper, easier and quicker. 2 years seems like a long time to dig a little hole.
It will be nice when it is done. In the meantime it is going to suck. I believe the thinking is that with more and more traffic, it will help alleviate some roundabout traffic at main Vail mostly. Also will help with emergency response times. No freeway access. It would have been a lot nicer matching up with Cascade intersection, cuz the TR folks might be less inclined to play Frogger.
Be interesting to know who owns property on the other side of the freeway near the hole and what influence they had in the decision. All of the sudden some folks are just a short walk to the lifts and nevervail. Since there is no exit the entire traffic congestion argument is bullshit as many will still hit the same circle in the village.
