Not all doctors (or Christians) are greedy assholes. Friend of mine was a missionary surgeon--spent his first ten years after residency full time in the Congo--near Goma, then 3 months every year, operating and training local surgeons. Never missed a year until 2 years ago when it finally got too dangerous even for him. For most of his time there he was in the middle of civil war--sometimes his hospital was in the control of the govt, sometimes the rebels. Didn't seem to matter. Along the way he probably repaired more recto-vaginal and vaginal-bladder fistulas than any surgeon in history, although he was too humble to publish his experience. Most of those fistulas (basically tears between the vagina and rectum or bladder, or both) were the result of either girls being too young and small to deliver their babies without tearing or of rape with an instrument, most commonly a bayonet.
He has an interesting slide show about how the constant war in that part of the world is basically over the rare metals in our cell phones.

Can't say much on the car wreck/domestic fight scene, but I'm very glad that all of our explosive diaper experiences are behind us. I do remember being amazed at times at the extent of those explosions. But this thread does have some similarities to the car wreck scenario in that it's tough to look away and you wish it weren't happening...
