they're not on it there. you can see it in the background of the first pic though. when i first saw the pics on facebook i though they were on the backside of elephant back which would have put them in the mokelumne wilderness. i almost called the cops.

Well, I skied untracked pow at Alta today, 4" of fluff and packed pow at Stevens Pass yesterday ... but Jackson has 8' of snow on the ground in the village and I've heard 10' of snow on the ground in GTNP.

So, Mormons and Cowboys can go fuck each other.

TahoeBC, your pics the past few weeks have me wanting a fatbike. I wasn't too into them because winter is (or should be) for shredding pow, but that is looking a lot more fun than cruising icy groomers or just staying home because it's cloudy again and groomers on a shitty day really sucks. Still don't like the term "fatbike", though, sounds like it should have a reclining seat and cupholders and seat warmers and an engine. Maybe call it a winter bike or something. Fuck, we need some snow.

Mr Pow, try Demoing one first, people seem to dig it or not, but when things turn Coral Reef the whole landscape changes into a Moab like landscape. We are just playing around and seeing what can be done, it's been a fun way to change things up in these dismal snow years of late.

Yeah, years back when a stock front suspension mtn bike was my primary vehicle I would do quite a bit of winter riding, but firm packed xc trails and the occasional short snowy downhill singletrack was about as adventurous as I got. Taking it to the alpine looks sweet, especially when conditions are such as they are right now (or the past few seasons). As far as fun factor, you're probably winning in Tahoe right now.

Anyone in your crew running a single speed? Seems like the answer in wet environment.

Was more dwelling on the epicness of a bike ride in the pct than the legalities involved.

Most my buds are running a 1x, I'm on a 1x11, so no front derailleur. I'm not man enough to try and ride a single speed up a hill in snow and honestly I've never had any shifting issues yet.

buildakicker I doubt they ever ever thought about enough to make a ruling on it, clearly the wilderness areas are off limits. But once there is enough snow cover how are you even gonna know were the PCT is? As far as I'm concerned its an open slate and the trail goes were ever you point your tire.

Yesterday's report of 8 inches skied so much deeper. Skied off mount glory yesterday and then a early afternoon lap in edelweiss bowl off teton pass. Had a blast. Today's adventure was to 4 pines from JHMR and the snow yesterday was defiantly better. Or maybe my legs were I can't tell. I'll have another beer. As always I'm not much of a picture person but I'll post this from edelweiss bowl yesterday.

I have taken the weekend to sort through months of photos. For those that are climbers, here is an abundance of stuff from JTree up in the climbing forum.

It's warm in Telluride. Today I made turns that hit the bed surface. Groomers are firm chalk. Steep skiing is better in tahoe believe it it not.

North Bowl (SV) & under Headwall lift felt steep.
Got cool "ride your slough" vibe first few turns into NB the last time.
Garbage chute looked very do-able if you str8line the top bit. Or have short skis.
KT is getting really rocky - well West Face to Saddle side - the "easiest way down" is now really technical In places.
    You would love it 6er!

Really enjoyed Nancy's Couloir (SB) today.
It (and east face) actually got better when the sky clouded over later - soft snow turning to perfect sugar.

A great couple of days skiing.
(Of course it was also easy to make poor line choices & get bounced around by hard rutted crusty crap or sucked down by soft rotten snow).
Oh yeah, we did catch a bunch of rocks, natch.
Quite a lot of "crowds" so not too bad for the resorts considering how things are.

Last weekend there were a couple of tightening chokes due to thin cover, so I can only imagine what they look like now. Patrol should probably put an extra warning at the KT lift line because I definitely saw a few people who were expecting the normal saddle and were way in over their heads. Caused a bit of a mid-slope traffic jam.

Don't underestimate the PCTA. When sonora pass was getting all but closed off to sleds in the Wilderness expansion that went on in 2008-9 and the two small drainages that were set aside for sled access were being looked at, they disallowed crossing of the PCT with sleds everywhere but one spot. Now the forest service has to go out there every year and place a bizillion snow stakes along the trail that sits 5ft beneath the surface......because......you know. I still need to take pics of it next time I'm out there. It's insane.

There are probably over a thousand of these, placed way more densely than in this photo looks. Pic is from the bridgeport FS facebook page when they were setting them up.

All it takes is someone making a big enough stink about. Snowbikes probably have a good while though. Bikes are human powered so you're still a fairly good person. Even if you are a disrespectful, wreckless, mountainbiker potentially invading the sanctity of a strip of cleared dirt several feet beneath you

i don't think it's fair to blame all this on thin cover. on the other hand, Hutchski moved to tahoe in march of 2011 and we have had nothing but shit years since.

Tahoe Mags, got a small crew from UT and coastal CA converging on Reno for some music this weekend. One question - bring skis or hiking shoes?

    Muchos gracias.

I mean, there is some snow, though it's pretty much groomers and corn these days. Have fun at the shows, I'll be at the Saturday night one...

    ShakeMe, party down my friend.

kid, I'm still laughing, thanks for that.

Is it WROD and packed full of people? Or, is there a little space to explore and get away from folks? I've never been to Tahoe. We're capable skiers.
