except i was watching the radar and the bands form off the lake last night when the winds were out of the north. at that point there was 2" all the way from stateline to al tahoe and west of al tahoe there was 0.

Boys. It's snowing. KW is well past 4" in deposition. Might go out for an afternoon walk. My son just ripped the Ditch of Doom. No need to squabble. Assume the pass will be pretty nice tomorrow. Gonna go slay some bunny. Top closed today. Damn cold out. That's what. Way softer surface than expected. Except that wind scoured region under the nose. Plush. Gonna build a sled run later.

It's all about (building) that base, no (squabble).

You can see it here: http://www.wrh.noaa.gov/mesowest/gmap.php?map=rev Current wind direction at SLT airport is still NNE.

Edit: They actually reference it in a different post for Tahoe as well. See here: https://www.facebook.com/NWSReno/posts/830002037061638 and here https://www.facebook.com/NWSReno/posts/830102890384886

Not saying that's the reason it was necessarily so much heavier (Rose area got a good amount too), but NWS was pointing it out.
Due south of Pyramid gets you somewhere around Wadsworth and Fernley, The snowfall totals in the Carson Range are likely attributed to a good old fashioned up slope phenomenon, very similar to the CO Rockies. A E-NE wind being forced up against the 4500 foot escarpment that is the Carson Range.

Mt. Rose this morning - experienced the deepest dust-on-crust I've ever skied. 10-12" of blower on top of icy base = hit bottom every turn. Not enough coverage off the groomed to make it fun, so it was blower-on-groomers for me. Fun, but my toes still hurt from the 10* temps.

Slide side had some weird wind-scoured parts, main side had no wind affected snow -- no slabs or crust, just nice even fluff. Winds increased gradually all morning until I left around 10:45. No chair closures due to wind.

Mt. Rose highway is a mess of holiday tourists driving very slow, chaining up in random places. It is a little slippery out there, but not 15 mph slippery.

'Tis the season of neglecting all turnouts. But, yeah, the middle-of-the-road chainers are the worst.

Ended up building a killer sled run this afternoon. No time for a walk in the woods. Poking around the lower mountain at KW offered up plenty of fun turns. No idea how much fell. I rarely hit bottom if I was skiing in the right spots. Low angle tree obviously were the most consistent. There are places nearby I imagine would be quite fun tomorrow. Will see if I can muster up a 7am lap and still get my kid to ski school on time. Got a 5 hour date with the mrs tomorrow. No worries I the lifts don't turn. She has skins this season. Turns will be had.

Took advantage of the gorgeous weather this Sunday and headed up the Crescent. At the same time I topped out a couple skiers came hiking around from the backside, and snapped a couple photos. Nice settled, soft snow in the upper half, real firm once it curved around except for a strip of softer stuff against the skiers left wall.

BRRRRRRRR!!!!! Too cold for this fair weather CA/NV backcountry snowboarder. Tomorrow sounds much better

I only did crescent once a long time ago and had to strap in just below you in the second picture due to not enough snow to top out. That's a scary entrance. ^^^
I'd never backdoor drop that thing due to the top being prone to dust on rock. Good on ya for doing the smart thing.

Barely edgeable. Not chalky until the apron. Had the whole thing been like that I wouldn't have rode it. Who knows what it'll be like by this evening after the winds.

KW pretty much shut down. Was taking the shuttle from the base to TC, and shuttle parking was blocked by a limo. Took the driver a full 5 minutes to unload. Ignored staff's instructions to move. Vail has finally arrived in true form.

    ^^^ Classic.

Anybody who's out celebrating in the Truckee area tonight should know about this free shuttle:

Jesus it was cold out there this morning, we almost gave up trying to go for a second lap cause we could not get our skins apart.

Spin drifts coming off the peaks, Spats camera froze in the on position trying to take the same pic

I was putting nearly all my weight on my skin and it was not budging, next time at the top I stashed them next to my chest, worked much better after that.

Spats giving it all he gots

Relay area today was super windy and provided pretty terrible skiing from the ridge down to well into the trees. There was some soft snow way down in the well protected low angle stuff. It was the coldest day I've ever experienced in the Tahoe area.

Overall a great day out. I won't be going out again until it snows...

^^^^. That was my planned area for tom. Did u ski/ride the north bowl? South east aspect or more south south trees? I Was planning on dropping north bowl if conditions are safe and good. Then back up too south trees and over to incline peak back to the lake and call it a day. Pm me if you want. I'd love to hear more input.

2nd lap. So did you and spats find decent snow? I shelved my hike plans for tuning up the sled run after seeing most of Tuesdays snow had gotten blown out of the trees and off to Modesto. Certainly still some pockets in well protected gullies, but it looked like slim pickings. OTOH, this snow condition is nearly perfect for sled run construction. Ours is super fast.

We did! and we would have done another if it had not been so cold, sheltered places were the snow has blown into are providing super fun bottomless fast pow turns right now.

Busted a skin track were the snow was more shallow for the ease of getting up, but you can see it's certainly not all gone, so now I've posted all 3 photo's I took yesterday and I regretted even doing that my hand paid the price of admission for doing so.

Anyone been up Rose Nob since these windstorms? I was thinking of staying in Auburn tonight then doing Castle, but Kidwoo's pic looks terrible. So now I'm thinking the Nob if Rose area got a bit of new snow recently, but concerned about wind scour.

Yeah, the 1st run was "interesting", but the 2nd run had some MOMENTS. Great to have coverage even if the conditions are a bit variable.
