We stayed on Big Chief and Double Diamond most of the day and we were strangely isolated from said asshats. Oh my, was it a good day, no...it was AMAZING!

So glad I didn't plan on skiing Crystal and that I got to the mountain by 8:30. 30-minutes later and I would have been among the hordes that got turned away when the parking lots maxed out. Had to be lots of angry people.

The wifey and I stayed in the camper at Mt Dweebus this long weekend. Great skiing each day, but no lack of clusterfuckery with the combination of crowds, chair 6 derail/evac (narrowly escaped), and loss of power today.

    Monday morning:

White Pass was awesome today. I skied in the trees to avoid the crowds. It was a great day!

Didn't hear about Chair 6. Was that on Sunday afternoon, when the wind picked up?

Was that line from about 1:20 in the vid from Monday? Managed to get in with the rest of the crowd on Deer Fly when they unleashed the masses.

Vibes to all the friends and family. I saw patrol performing cpr on him when I was getting on southern cross. Any time you see that it makes your heart drop

^^^ damn that sucks, thoughts to family and friends

Anyone skiing Baker tomorrow or Thursday? Thinking about a sick day from work but not sure any of my friends can make it. Looking for folks to ski with for safety and because I hear Baker doesn't let you ski solo in these conditions? Have avalanche gear and can ski trees quickly.

Common sense. So rare today in America it's almost like having a superpower.

Hood is getting pounded but I am looking north to hit Crystal on Thursday and Friday. From what I can gather, Northway and C6 for the most part have not been running for at least 3 days and their latest update indicates only C6 operational by mid-morning Wednesday, with no timeline given for Northway lift. NOAA is forecasting 40 to 50 mph from west but that shouldn’t really affect the lift operations at Crystal …or does it? Man, I’ve never seen Crystal having such difficulties opening up their terrain. Whenever it opens though, it’s gonna be deeeeeep!

Anyone dialed into Crystal scene want to chime in? Thanks.

This is my first year at crystal and I've only got ~20 days here so ill give you what I think but take it with a grain of salt. First, I have seen c6 go on wind hold (for the remainder of the day) from wind coming over the ridge (from the west) although the resort is obviously better protected from west wind then any other direction. Second, I think northway will open by mid morning Friday if not earlier (just speculation) more effort seems to be put into opening as much terrain as possible at crystal then at, say, meadows... Heather canyon in particular.

I unexpectedly found out who made that but am sworn to secrecy. apparently it started out as a snowman, and it wasn't someone who got turned around.

Yeah, my hats off to Crystal patrols. Unlike Crystal the Hood is so exposed the patrols here can only do so much …although I wonder sometimes. Anyway, thanks for the scoop! I will be there no matter what.

Crystal was outstanding and deep today - I have no complaints about 6 or northway not opening. I must have heard well over a hundred bombs from patrol today.. they were sure working hard against the strong winds and 10 more inches coming down during the day. They were talking about getting a heli for friday after the storm cycle is done, I doubt northway will crack until then.

Yes, Sunday. The lift derailed shortly after we began hoofing it to the king with the eager throng that awaited the south gate drop. There was a patroller at the top, telling folks the lift had shut down and was being rope evac'd, and not to bother going back that way. The last few chairs were still occupied two hours later. Brrr. Glad we narrowly escaped.

Nothing too special... '93 Northern Lite on a Tundra. Those campers are kinda rare I guess, and they're built pretty well for a lightweight rig. The top and bottom parts of the camper body are molded fiberglass and clamshell together at a circumferential seam, which is advantageous because it minimizes water/cold air leak paths into the walls (the only penetrations are sawzalled out for the skylights and windows, versus the many joints in a much heavier stick-built camper). There's inch-thick blue foam insulation in all the walls, so it's little 12000 btu furnace keeps the place toasty. Two 20lb propane bombs, wet bath w/ inside/outside shower, 4-burner plus oven, etc. Great trailhead/ski lot rig. Stop in and grab a beer if you spot us!

Norseman, sweet video! Thanks for bringing the stoke lately. I'm still hoping we can make turns at some point when I'm back in WA!

Don't forget only two lifts spinning. 7 and 8 were windholds and 6 was shut down due to a tree falling on or near it? It was still excellent though. The last hour and a half of the day when the wind died down it just dumped... it looked like 3+ inch / hour snowfall. Visibility really sank bad but most of the day was fine near and around trees. My only complaint was I never got a lunch at the truck with Chair 7 shut down.
