Maybe I misspoke? Its not been shitty here, its been great.

I help people out I meet in person all the time. I think posting on the the internet is different though- just because someone has internet access and can google search this forum doesn't make them part of my community.

I think the crowds right now are fine- my worry is more that if the numbers increase over the next 5 years the same way they've increased over the last 5, then it won't be fine.

saying stuff on the internet and real interaction w/ people are 2 totally different things. i always am more then willing to share w/ folks at the th or the uptrack. a few weeks ago i offered a ride to the top of cp from the crater pullout and showed some folks from santa cruz how and where to go so they didnt have to slog from the bottom. they asked why we were so willing to share our playground w/ out of towners as they are used to the surf style vibe that permeates santa cruz and most of cali. i believe the secret of a happy life is giving positive energy to all you encounter and you will receive it in turn. and we have more terrain then we can use here yet most just go to the same place. there will be 20 cars at the luther pullout yet i rarely see anyone out where we go.

Great! Now our car windows will be smashed, tires punctured, and "Kook!" written in wax on our windshields.

Amen! Gimpy and Patches. Social media and loose lips clearly have impacts. Pictures and stoke good! Place names and route descriptions bad!

    Let me see -
AT gear sales are increasing at an exponential rate,
Fat skis and boards have become the norm on a powder day,
We all cleanup the in-bounds pow ferociously,
and our warming globe will make ANY powder day greatly anticipated by all.

Sorry guys & gals, you are going to have to learn how to share.

Help educate that person out of their 'resort mentality'. They may not know that they have one. Help them see the options.

In my still limited non-resort experiences, I have learned so much from my partners, beyond the AIARE class. Thank you all.

Well said man. I think watching those dudes lay out big ol turns in the promised land while whooping it up was pretty damn rewarding too.
I used to put lots of time into the web site I used to have (sierraflow.com). It was fun, it really memorialized some absolutely awesome experiences, but I know it played a small role in exploiting our playground. It was nothing compared to this site, but every TR clearly detailed where we started, how we approached what we skied and maybe even future projets on the horizon. I received a fair amount of emails and inquiries, which I always responded to and shared information about. It was a really cool vibe and I really enjoyed it. I'm actually pretty torn about the benefits of sharing and stoking vs. the detriments of exposing and exploiting.....Like most have said, there are tons of places to go to avoid the crowds - just gotta be wililng to be creative and go. I'll never forget when these SLT locals gave me some shit for doing a TR on Trimmer peak about 7-8 years ago. I felt a bit guilty initially, but then mentioned it to a buddy who said "you mean the two perfect north facing slide paths visible from every corner of Lake Tahoe? They think no one ever noticed those lines until you wrote about it on your web site?" He was right, but lemmings are lemmings and they find safety in following so the TR's do play a role.

Maybe we can just shift this conversation into North Shore vs South Shore. That's always good for a few pages of rage. Let's be honest, your north shore hills are flat and suck balls. Take a look at a map, even Rubicon Peak is closer to the south shore than north shore. You guys call us 'poverty with a view', but the best thing about the north shore is the view across the lake at the REAL mountains on the south shore. BAM!

Its not about whether I want to be cool to people who come to the BC on their own.

Its about whether I want to contribute to a process that actually draws more people in.

The surf analogy is great, because what is happening now is so different. I can't imagine North Shore surfers actively encouraging people to come surf their breaks.

The best part of being a West Shore fiend living in Reno is when it dumps I'm actually 2x's as close as the S. Shore kooks who are actually only a couple miles away in distance but in reality need to drive 70 miles to get there (Emerald Bay closures). West Shore (Section 20-Rubicon Pk.) actually belongs to the N. Shore for this reason. I think it's God's way of punishing people for living in that cancer of a town. Having a mini Reno built next to such a beautiful lake is such a shame. How ya like that?!

How bout someone share some current condition's information, am I doomed to skiing high speed groomers on Saturday with lots of safety meetings, or are there some aspects out there still skiing reasonably good?

From my living room window I would say that you should probably take a flask (bottle) of whiskey for your high speed safety meetings. But I haven't been out since wed.

If its getting to the point that you feel you need to hide your tracks to get to your not so secrete stash its probably time you start looking for a new place to call home. I have traveled all over the world and been fortunate to always meet cool people to take me into big terrain and I am always willing to return the favor to anyone who seems like a solid person. Sorry that this month has been so shitty back home and that everyones whining about 'their' stash being tracked out but stop blaming your fellow community, get in your car or hop on a flight and go shred the shit out of some pow. Thats what winter is all about. Thats it for my rant, now i gotta get some sleep so I can make the drive from Bozeman to Revelstoke tomorrow!
Great attitude check man, have an awesome time in the promised land

So... how was the cream cheese on top of crust skiing? Did it help at least a little? Hopefully a few inches Saturday night / Sunday morning will do something.

I actually love it when Emerald Bay closes. That instantly cuts off the pipeline of Squaw Dudes who must have a picture of themselves airing into the cross on Tallac with all of Tahoe in the background. And that typically happens on a POWDER day.

Cancer of a town? Tell me about another town where you are forced to decide whether you should drive 10 minutes to epic skiing so you can pretend you are a North Face sponsored athlete, or drive 10 minutes to the Lakeside and pretend you are Jimmy the Greek placing your next big parlay in a smoke filled sportsbook where they sell cheap beers.....or there's always choice #3, as I prefer, do BOTH in the same day!? Beat that Truckee, Kings Beach, Tahoma.....and Draino.

    Topic switch successfully engaged!

We can do the same thing in my corner of the lake. I won't pretend the skiing rises to the level of "epic" but it's pretty good. To that, I'll add: no state income tax, MILF-filled private beaches, and no traffic.

Incidentally, have any of the sportsbooks published their SB prop bet lists yet? I seem to recall that the Cal Neva didn't do so until a few days before the game itself.

If you believe that Real Estate value reflects quality of life in even some small way, why would you ever go South?

Skied at Alpine today around noon. Miserable. Rainy, slushy, gross. Groomers we're functional, off piste was a disaster. Dirt starting to show on some flatter, more traveled groomers. Our place is roughly the same elevation at Alpine's lodge and we're having serious melt/snow breakdown for a few days.

BGnight always gives me the serious doosh chills. south lake might suck in many ways but nowhere near as bad as that sprawling shithole you are stinking up. yah, i can go ski out my door or be on a lift in 5 minutes and ride my bike down to the lake all summer while you swelter in 100 degree heat. and how often is emerald bay closed? yah, not that much and tallac to kirkwood has so much better bc skiing than west shore anyway why ever bother going north?

There he goes again. Tracking up all the back country. I think the real problem is all you guys who spend almost every day in the BC. If you would learn to ride some bumps, and just stay inbounds, there would be more untracked for the rest of us. Geez.

Now, could one of you post up some gps coordinates to this back country place? Thanks.

Oh. And from Powdorks transgression a few years ago, there is still rarely any tracks in Thunder Bowl, and it is a short boot pack from a lift.

If only wildfires burn in the winter.....otherwise you're sol. Not sure why I'm even employed in the winter but I get to ski lots.
