wouldn't it just be easier to use the midweek spray as a misdirection

Good for you. You'll enjoy it. Much more snow geek skillz. Who are you taking course from?
I didn't believe in reincarnation when I was your age either.
The dishwasher himself ...

Ha, well deserved...and I mostly just want a b.c. only eastside thread. Mammoth can have it's own thread.
Sooo, can any avy experts chime in with their opinions about how this wet snow/rain event we just got will affect things? I see the eastside is getting some decent moisture out of this. My thinking would be that with the high snow levels this could actually help beat down some of lingering surface hoar and faceting in the lower elevation, north facing snow down there. Or are we going to get another heinous rain crust that wreaks havoc?
i was only finding hoar in areas that were under the inversion cap, meaning the bottoms of valleys. wasn't worried about it really at all because of that. Rain crusts are more of an issue when it rains up high in the alpine and then freezes before we get more snow. that isn't the case here and i would consider this more of a bonding event than anything else. (This applies to tahoe zone, not from Sonora south where they are getting more)
i am NOT an avy expert tho

On the topic of weekend conditions for roadside touring in Tahoe ... Here's how stokey it was last weekend.
The snow looked like this
and skied like this
Glacier point should be awesome this weekend!![]()

these from Monday;

raining now at lake level.
bodywhomper gets it. there is a reason i am more "guarded" now. i have seen and felt the results of spraying too specifically on the internet years ago. and putting in visible skintracks and spurs has led to pressure on previously unspoiled spots this year like i have never seen. just expressing my opinion and making a suggestion. nothing wrong w/ giving current beta as thats what this thread should be all about, but a little vagueness might help.
Heh...I spent all last weekend just outside the boundaries of KW and never once saw another human. Go figure.
right, but you skinned in backwards to throw off the hordes right?
also: I bet the old-timers of yesteryear were pretty pissed when they started to see a young Gimpy on their secret stashes... now it is his turn I guess.
edit: Gimpy, I can't say I've been here long enough to say "I know what you mean", but I CAN see where you are coming from... just giving you shit.
... jfost is really ignorant, he often just needs simple facts laid out for him...
Well today was wet.
about a inch or two so dust on crust/bumps/whatever was under there at kwood today
More like snot on crust on the North Shore .......
Grind that stuff in. It is part of the resurfacing process.
Squaw skied great today, visibility not great, but the wet snow stuck well to the firm and softened it.

I'm with gimpy on this one (made my post above before seeing his). Just say something like "north facing stuff sheltered from the east winds is still skiing great". Or, that's what I feel you should do unless you want to bring more and more people to the places you ski.
I'm just as guilty as anyone else, this place feels like a small community, which it is - but for every gimpy or powdork who is part of the community, there are 100 people who aren't even registered TGR members who read these posts.
If you have a nice place that's not getting tracked out, don't set the skintrack from the parking area, like Bgnight said - hike up the road a ways. I do that and run my skintracks through alder or willows, so people don't follow them. And if I can't do that I put in shitty skintracks that will be useless as soon as the sun hits them.
That's not because of anyone here posting in this thread, I've met some of my best BC partners through this forum. Its the fact that its all part of the public googlez.
And this is an aside- but the people in the BC are not as cool and friendly as they were 10 years ago. Lots of people with resort-style attitudes out there now.
Maybe I need to start a private forum for all the grumpy old men. We can post beta and complain about kids these days.
i'm not sayin', i'm just sayin'. ;-)
but seriously i still see good attitudes out there in terms of what i consider resort style behavior, i.e. trailbreaking group or first comer is generally given the option of going first. i never really get to the top of a line and feel i have to hurry or feel any kind of resort mentality. i'm a billion times more comfortable talking to someone i meet in the backcountry than in any bar, because the conversations always go well

Its sad that it has come to this in the Tahoe region... I agree with part of what you are saying but in all honestly how many times have you followed a skin track you didnt set? Asked someone in the parking lot for beta? Discovered new terrain because someone was nice enough to bring you there? If its getting to the point that you feel you need to hide your tracks to get to your not so secrete stash its probably time you start looking for a new place to call home. I have traveled all over the world and been fortunate to always meet cool people to take me into big terrain and I am always willing to return the favor to anyone who seems like a solid person. Sorry that this month has been so shitty back home and that everyones whining about 'their' stash being tracked out but stop blaming your fellow community, get in your car or hop on a flight and go shred the shit out of some pow. Thats what winter is all about. Thats it for my rant, now i gotta get some sleep so I can make the drive from Bozeman to Revelstoke tomorrow!
