lol... the way it went down last time and being 2 hours from a hospital not a fricken chance on that. I need my bones in one piece for when I get back for real skiing.

Hey Shadam, that +41c heat making you a bit cranky? Sounds like what you need is a prescription for pow.

You'd think with the hills open and plenty of back country to go around there would be some more stoke around here fer frick sakes...being a SKI forum and all. It is Sunday so hopefully something comes up on this page. I'm back on stix on the 1st. Apparantly i'm heading straight in to a tent for 3 days upon return too...

Guys, it's still really thin in the Rockies, the good snow doesn't start until Rogers heading west. So the skiing and the stoke is mostly in the B.C. interior thread.

Gotta go where the snow is, and the stoke, too.

Yeah, still thin. Only 40cm HS at Bow Summit.

But same thing happened last seasom, then La Nina kicked in and it got so good in January.

I was there today. It was great. Bluebird for just about the whole day and calf deep in a few places. Trees weren't bad. Crowds were nonexistent, just ski onto the lift. That being said, it is super rocky, dozens of rock hits in my 6 hours. Part of that is me not trying all THAT hard to avoid them, since I was on rock skis, but I tore out an old base repair and added a new shot along with plenty of scrapes of varying size. In some places you'll turn and hit dirt. Gnar. Unfortunately my rock skis basically don't have edges so ripping around switch on icy machine-snowed groomers was out.

As for the Sunshine comparisons... my home mountain is Blackcomb, and I don't have enough days at any of the rockies resorts to have a complete picture of what each place offers at the best of times. However, from my brief time spent at SSV and LL I don't see why anyone would prefer the former for terrain. If they have a bunch more pow, okay, fine... but it's just an absolutely abysmally laid out mountain with a bunch of lifts that go nowhere. Louise makes considerably better use of its chairs in terms of the quality of stuff they get you to. Not to mention I've just found the atmosphere more enjoyable, even before patrollergate put a damper on things.

Yeah, this is fair, although if you're driving from Calgary (as I am) you're already putting in the extra 50km past the SSV turnoff to get to the Lake. I think I may end up doing LL and Castle for any day trips and KH for weekends.

Having no beacon I'd have to agree that LL and KH look way more appealing

Rogers pass was great this weekend. Toured some of the treed slopes SW of the Asulkan parking lot.

Coverage is looking pretty good for early season but there is still a ton of terrain contours (read: creeks) and logs that still need to get filled and covered. All in all I was pretty impressed with the snow to date but it looked and felt like a base really hadn't formed yet since the snow wasn't very consolidated and just sluffed off while skinning up.

Regardless, for early season touring it was some great skiing. Ear to ear grins all day from everyone. Unfortunately no photos for stoke since I'm a bad person and forgot the camera in the car Although, the interior BC thread has quite a bit of stoke from the last couple of weeks.

so who will get snow, and who will get rain in the next 48 hours.....
With banffs in town high of +4 tues, and + 6 wed, high winds, and 100% POP, I'm thinking SSV and LL might be some GOOD skiing. Reve, KH, and Fernie. right on the line. might be amazing, might be showers...

it will be black ice down low and an amazing high-water content snow up top in november 2007 i hit a day like that at SSV: nobody could make the drive to the parking lot and cars were strewn left and right in the rain, but once you got up top, it was the most snow per hour i've ever seen at the place (not that i've seen all that much)...

Hmm.... parkway -- especially icefields area -- look like they might get the best of it. Might want to give it a little time to see how it all shakes out. Could be a significant amount of love on a thin and fragile pack.
