Alta is for snowboarders, as well as pedophiles, Buddhists, redheads, skiers, the French, beer drinkers and you. You just can't ride the lift with a sled/snowboard/lawn tractor/81 mm mortar/other non-skis.

How many snowboarders ride Alta? Every one of them that earns their turns like the skiers here who've already done the same. If you haven't, then shut the hell up. If you have, then welcome, brother; Alta is for you.

I understood the surface hoar comment you made completely. But you didn't want it to snow because you aren't living here yet, not because of the surface hoar issue. You only mentioned surface hoar later, which somehow coincides with you moving here. Apparently AFTER you move here, it can snow because surface hoar doesn't exist after that, which is I think Novemberr 15th? it took you ten years in the Wasatch to come to this brilliant prognosis?

So really, I can ride Alta? That shit face in the little building at the cross over said he'd yank my snowbird ticket if I steped across the line. I was just going to hike the path on the Alta side of the rope and drop into the Snowbird side. I caleed BS, he said he'd call snowbird ski patrol. Not worth the risk, fucking tickets are expensive.

Alta would be fun on a board. The traverses aren't too bad, high traverse would be easy to rock. The only problem is the arrogent douch skiers. Not all, but just like snowboarding they have their fair share. I can only imagine the hell that allowing snowboarding would cause.

Some anecdotal evidence: I beat Rob Kingwell's time by about 10 seconds thru the canines Lupis challenge, he won his division, which is snowboarding and a $1000 check. I was on skis and got 5th. (Griffin Post won) they don't call it slowboarding for no reason

I used to snowboard and put in 3 years worth of 100+ day seasons patrolling on a board. I know the pros and cons of both well.
Sure, in old days fat skis didn't exist, no one could keep up with a snowboard, but todays skis have more surface area then a snowboard, skiers are more evenly balanced and aerodynamic, and we have poles to get around.
I will readily admit that snowboards excel in Powder and thistight trees, but alas by the bottom of the run I'll be waiting for you to unstrap your binding

Honestly, Alta is not a good snowboarding hill. There is way too much hiking, in, up and out of spots. I find it funny that people get so bent because they can't ride the lifts some where.

Exactly right... I really don't know why they get all bent out of shape about it. Snowbird is MUCH better laid out for skiers that don't want to hike, or snowboarders.

Alta is about skiing pow, and it's pretty damn refreshing they haven't sold out for the mighty dollar out of respect for great skiing.

Exactly. The people who come to Alta and spend the real money, you know the ones who pay to stay at the lodges for a week each season and buy lift tickets for their entire families to go eat chili at Alf's? Many of those customers like the fact that Alta doesn't allow snowboarding. For a lot of them it's one of the reasons they choose Alta. Many of these people have been coming here for a couple generations now. It's what they know. Are they misinformed regarding snowboards? Yeah, probably.

Most the pass holders who are actually skiing everyday probably really couldn't care less if the area allowed them. If you keep up and are having fun, who cares what you're using. There are skiers who suck that are just as capable at putting in shitty, low traverses all over the ski area.

Last year at Alta it was a dream come true not having to worry about some punk ass idiot cutting across my line on his/her blind side. The other benefit is find lines even late in the day that haven"t been plowed to death by those shovel based abominations called snowboards.
