It is nice that you think that I am talking about you. I said it is not a good mountain for snowboards, and I don't want you there. Maybe you would like it, and you would not fuck it up, but snowboarders, in general would change it - and we don't want it to change.
Then don't bring it up. Simple.
Fine, then do. There is nothing stopping you from hiking Alta. Why all the rage?
The families I was referring to aren't the locals trying to get season passes. They are the group that travel out for a week each year and buy day tickets. And stay in the lodges. And do it for the great snow, terrain and because there are no snowboarders. This is the cult I was speaking of. These are the people who really care.
Actually, it is the screaming assholes who keep Alta in check. If you one plankers were allowed on the mountain, you would see that at Alta, the lower traverse tend to not happen. That is because of the screaming assholes. It helps keep the snow in good condition.
And,as it has been said, plenty of skiers can fuck up the traverses, but the Alta culture is to yell at them until they ski fall line. Ever time there is a step up in the traverse, to get over a feature, there would be a lower line created by the snowboarder who did not want to take off their board, and hike up, and the suck would begin.
Really, they aren't that bad. I enjoy riding with my friends, or least the ones willing to hike. But it always takes a bit longer. Traversing and side stepping is so much faster than taking off the gear and boot packing. My snow boarding buddies need to work twice as hard to get from A to B.
And yes, I have plenty of lazy snow boarding friends and plenty of lazy skiing friends. I'm fine with the fact that they do not want to work too hard. I just ski with other friends, who do work for it, on powder days.
BTW, I've only skied Alta two days. So I really don't care that much. But I still think it is funny that people are so butt hurt over it.
