    HA!

Listen, I would delete this in a second if we thought it was not fun anymore.

Next time I am in Utah, I am bringing a Splitboard and riding Alta and the Bird.

Yeeeah, I guess if by "all the kinks worked out" you mean like the new snowboards with a motor-driven edge tread that digs into the mountainside for a couple inches of grip and then self-propels an uphill traverse. Yeah, no, they didn't have those 36 years ago. Yeppers, ever since those came out the traverses have been slicker than bacon grease through a duck. Oh wait--bookends still turns into a clusterfrag on pow days. Oh, that's right, it's prolly cuz those climby thingies haven't been invented yet. So, exactly what kinks have been worked out with gear?! One-plankers and pencil-thin traverses didn't mix last century and they still don't in the 21st.

Sounds like some peeps may not be familiar with the Bookends traverse at the Bird. It's very long, and some of it is slightly uphill. Much of it is steep enough you've only got about 1-3" edgeset when it's medium-packed.

You won't see pro boarders lapping it. You won't even see good riders making the BE rounds. I haven't seen a snowboarder make it past the Hilary Step in a couple years. Riders in the know, don't go.

The 'B.E. Cluster' is exactly what would happen on Alta's High-T, Yellow Trail, Greeley, and East Castle. They'd be like a magnet for knuckle-dragging hacks, newbies and wannabe's. When one-plankers come to complete stop they immediately screw up the flow. They screw it up even more as they try to get off their boards because there's not enough room on narrow tracks.

On Bird pow days, their reckless behavior and postholing on B.E.T. has been, shall we say, the flashpoint of not a few altercations.

Why must some things in life be learned the hard way over and over?

so why would anyone care if snowboarders were at alta if they weren't riding the routes and lines we prefer?

The problem usually isn't AT the destination--not that many make it. Just like with Bookends, it's in trying to get there through the shizshow; the endless stream of newbies, look-i-loo's and wannabe's clogging it up along the way.

Most everyone is familiar with how frustrating traversing can be at Alta on a busy pow day on any of the four major traverses I named. Now picture that same frustration, and add to the mix the bottlenecking or clogging that would occur with boarders strewn along those narrow traverses in various stages of postholing, removing boards, sitting/standing on the track, putting on boards, hiking, sliding, flailing on one foot trying to skateboard it, and so on.

Like I say, Alta already experienced it and that's why they quit allowing snowboarding.

They own it and can do what they want. Personally I'm glad boarders don't slide the steels and sit in the middle of the runs on blind corners. Alta is for skiers and it is a great resort. Seriously go to Brighton cause it's for boarders
I need to go to Utah.
    Utah?
Yeah, Utah. It's wedged in between Wyoming and Nevada. You've seen pictures of it, right?

So after 15 years we finally made it to Utah.....

If the Alta liberated thread is true, things are good and I and others take back any ill thoughts about management at Alta.

To all you skiers that are pissed, you will get over it with a *high five* on pow days when I pass you.

    LONG LIVE ALTA

Enough already!!!!! This Thread is done. Its all been said. I lived in Alta for six seasons. There's a fuck ton of traversing. Open it to snowboarders, enjoy the shit show for a couple years and then they'll figure it out and stop coming. Snowbird is just as good. Snowfall, terrain, and the lifts go to the right places. I love Alta, I really do. But this shit about snowboarders all these years is old and I'm tired of seeing it every time I look at the fucking forum.

Alta releases a new video about the history and why they segregate. Someone embed please.

Nothing hard about embedding youtube vids....do it like this:

bracket..YOUTUBE..unbracket..copy all characters and numbers to the right of the 'equal' sign..bracket..forward slash..YOUTUBE..unbracket

    Like this:

Ha ha....that video just plain cracks me up. Who ARE those jackasses???? A bunch of dumbshits...and a hoary old bag. They think snowboarders can't make it to the backcountry? Sheeesh...never stopped me, and I don't even have splitboards, I just use snowshoes and modified crampons. Sure as hell doesn't seem to stop Jeremy Jones, either. What a bunch of brainwashed douchebags.

By the way...I've skied since I was 6 years old...and through racing developed a very technical style. I've adapted that same technical style to high-speed snowboarding down the fallline..edge to edge with fluidity. I ski in a racer's technical style between SL and GS...my boarding follows that style naturally. I suck at jibbing and shit...so I keep with what I'm good at, which is speed. I pass most skiers as a matter of course. The worst sight on any mountain is a skier skiing with his skis tight together and his fucking poles out abreast...makes the racer in me want to vomit. Boards also shine in pow.

EDIT: But I do have to admit that as a 'fall-line boarder', I find other boarders sitting in the middle of the trail and stupidly underneath various drops and shit in sets of three and four annoying and dangerous. If you're gonna sit...sit on the fucking EDGE of the trail. Beyond that...who cares, it's all good. The most important thing is just to revel in being out there in the snow...one board or two...backcountry or groomed...even tele.

dasblunt tells someone to "shut the fuck up and let this thread die", it dies, and then he resurrects it three months later? What a tool...

Alta doesn't allow snowboarding, big fucking deal. This isn't Goddamn preschool where everyone gets perfectly equal treatment, even when they're stupid. It also isn't tee-ball where everyone gets a trophy, even the assclown who runs to third instead of first. It's the adult world. Sometimes things aren't perfectly equal, and sometimes snowboarders can't board at every resort in North America. All your fucking whining isn't doing your cause any good. Go to Brighton, I heard there's lots of thuggy little fucks with bandanas over their faces you can shred with. And stay off the Goddamn traverse to Bookends please. Thank you and good night.

For the 3% out there that did not know it, that video was NOT produced by Alta, it was a one hour documentary produced by KUED TV the public broadcasting station in SLC.

BTW, not letting someone take off their board and snowshoe into the East Castle or the High T is for their own safety, they would get beat to death if they tried it.

This was my response to this cute little video.

    http://www.powdermag.com/office-blog...ists-rebuttal/

The guy who posted this to youtube also has a picture of his face on Saddam Hussein's body, and posted a video of Gator (skateboarder turned rapist and murderer). Those looking to "free Alta" are latching their message to some real winners!

I'm all for allowing snowboarding at Alta, but the Nazi crap just makes you look like morons.
