    Oh, OK, I'll type slower.

Roger Clemens - 23 years in the majors - W/L 353-183, 4661 strikouts, career ERA of 3.12, seven time Cy Young winner, MVP in '86. Postseason record is 12-8 in 33 starts, with a 3.66 ERA , and World Series record is 3-0 with an ERA of 2.37. I always forget that he never pitched a no hitter. Shows you how lucky one of those things can be. Hard to believe from somebody that has mowed down 21 in one game.

    Daisuke Matsuzaka - Rookie. W/L 13-9, 164 strikeouts, 3.79 ERA.

I guess it's harder to believe, given that he never did that. 20 in a game, yes, twice.

Anyway, it's not that Clemens isn't a historically great pitcher, I would never say that- he's the greatest baseball player of my lifetime. It's that your rambling post about accountants and lawyers was totally ridiculous and incoherent. It's okay, I get fucked up and make stupid comments sometimes too.

Listen. Here's more rambling. As a long time New Yorker, I have experienced the Golden period of George's appearence on the back of the NY Post at just the right time. Poof, there he is on the newstand at the start of the football playoffs doing a deal or just talking about one. Poof, attendance is a little low, I'm going to, well, fire my manager, (Martin), or just whine and bitch about him (all others besides Torre). Poof, another big deal during the Stanley Cup.
He doesn't do this anymore, because he's old and sick and the place is selling out every game and his cable channel has made him richer than 10 kings, so he doesn't have to. Unless, maybe, the team starts out the season sucking ass, and he needs a backpage savior. Poof, Rocket is back in town for, let's say....28 million (Dr Evil with finger to mouth) dollars. Yeah, that will get them talking. Yeah.

Who really knows how much he's getting paid? Of course, that blows my whole argument about, cough cough, Dice K.

Well, it does kind of blow your whole argument either way, because Matsuzaka is getting paid less and the Red Sox also sell out every game and have sky-high box office. By your logic, that makes every overpriced signing the Red Sox make a good one, or a PR gimmick.

Also, a Yankees spokesman recently said that Steinbrenner is "inconsistently coherent," so I don't think he's the one negotiating these contracts.

Yup, now you're getting what I'm saying. “Without promotion something terrible happens... Nothing!” - P T Barnum

And how could the spokesman tell?

GREAT game in Detroit tonight. Clocked in at a tidy 1:59.

Carmona was nasty for the tribe, but the Tigers bullpen finally pitched great. Zumaya's back, Rodney has been on a tear since he came back, Miller and Rogers should be off the DL soon, its about time the Tigers go on a run. We shall see if Cleveland can keep pace.

-and we now return to the sox-yankees shit talking

Fun watching the Angels, for whom I only root about 9 games a year, beat the shit out of Yank pitching tonight. Angels look pretty tough.

The Angels are a good team- they have a bunch of guys who can just go out and scrape out hits. I still think the Red Sox are the best team, though, from starting lineup to bench to rotation to pen to farm system.

This is going to be awesome.

the wife: why don't the yankees go out and buy some good pitchers

followed by: why is this skinny guy still pitching?

and then: baseball's all about having star pitchers and batters

the game tonight (yanks lose every game i've seen them in cali) should be interesting
    fine

Jeez, makes last night's Yankee game a little more palatable.

I heard Whitey Ford interviewed recently, and he attributes the explosion of modern offense to the dilution of pitching quality. He thinks well over half of the pitcher's out there would never have made it to the show in his time. He's right.

I don't know about that. Yes, there are twice as many teams now as in Ford's day, but there's also a much bigger talent pool to select from. There weren't many black, Latin or Asian pitchers around back in Whitey's day.

I think the biggest reason for the explosion in offense is the dimensions of the ballparks nowadays. Owners know that offense sells and they're putting the fences at distances to ensure that happens.

Oh, yeah, I forgot, he mentioned that, too. But you know he's a little biased.

there were more angels fans ejected than the angels had hits. hard showing up to the stadium the day after the yankees got rocked.

it is nice tho, that the los angeles angels of anaheim de la guadalupe fans get drowned out.

and why oh why are there red sox fans at this game?
