Betemit started with the Braves and was/is blocked by Chipper. I have no idea who the Braves received in return for Betemit, but I think it was late last year (I'm guessing middle relief). The Yankees just traded FOR Betemit a month ago, at the end of the trade deadline, and the Dodgers got Scott Proctor, who is now 2-0 for the men in blue.

Betemit was always a top prospect with the Braves, but he just didn't have anywhere to go because he was always blocked. I think he actually started as a SS but then was moved to 3B because of his size.

Lead down to four games after another series where Gagne blows one. I'm going to have a heart attack when the Sox visit the Yanks next week.

...and JD Drew watches a called third strike w/ 2 runners on abse in the 8th. Now do you know why the Dodgers were glad to get rid of him?

And this is a different team than the Sox saw earlier this year. Get ready for unfamiliar heat, and lots of offense.

I still think the Yanks have a slump in them and the Sox have a hot streak in them, but we'll see.

But like they said on the radio a little while ago, if the Yanks go 30 games over .500 after the All-Star break, which they might, what can you do but congratulate them?

If only because it's hard to imagine the Yankees keeping this up... I'm pretty down on the way the Sox are playing right now. Drew is so impotent in that lineup he changes the entire complexion of the team. Oh well, going to be an exciting couple of weeks!

The offense is not unfamiliar. As evidenced by the previous Yanks/Sox series this season. I am interested to see what Joba has due to the fact every Yankee fan is creaming their pants over him. On the other hand Mo does not look good at all. Age may finally be catching up with him.

Sox lined up their pitching nicely by spot starting Tavarez in the final game of the Anaheim series. Matsuzaka, Beckett, and Schilling going for us. Even though Schilling looks terrible since he's been back from the DL. I would look up who is going for the Yanks but am too lazy.

Nah, half the season was the slump. Now you have 3 300 hitters finally hitting when they weren't all year.

But, more important, suddenly there's middle relief that fell out of the sky. Striking out the side.

Oh. Well they should call off the games then, I mean what's the point of playing them?

The "daddy" quote was Pedro, not Papi.

The series rests on the shoulders of Beckett and Dice-K. Good pitching beats good hitting everytime. One good example is the Yanks losing in 4 games to the Tigers in last years playoffs. If Beckett and Dice-K pitch well then we take 2 out of 3. If they pitch like they did against the Yankes in previous series, then we are toast. The Yankees have good pitchers but none are the caliber of Beckett and to a certain extent Dice-K. Pettite scares me the most out of the group, he generally comes up big against the Sox.

The hype still lives. Yeah, he's been worth the 26 zillion bucks.

Dice-K is a good pitcher. If anything the hype has died down compared to the beginning of the year. The thing that kills him is his control and lack of run support. If he can get his breaking stuff over then he is unhittable.

Speaking of zillions of bucks for hyped pitchers... Cough Roger Clemens Cough

Listen. Like him or not, you're talking about Roger Clemens. I find it a bit unjust to even think of comparing him to a highly unproven (i.e., not even a post season record, among other things, like no no-hitters) Japanese pitcher who the Yankees would have embarrassed even more earlier this year if their own pitching wasn't barely double AA quality and their stellar lineup was still hungover from.....whatever.
Roger has proven to be servicable in his duties so far this year. I kinda doubt that he's getting as much as they say (fans like the hype of big numbers - who knows what the lawyers and accountants are doing to get to that figure), but the average attendance at Yankee Stadium this year is 52+. And that's before the new stadium is even 50% built. So, the cash flow is good right now.

Maybe, I'm not sure. Matsuzaka has at least three losses where he's given up two or fewer runs, though, which is what he's referring to.

Benny, maybe you should pay some attention to the things you wanna talk about before you talk about them.

I mean, you didn't even hear about the best pow season in the East in the last 30 years, and you live here.

    Friendly advice, my man.

Right, 'cause Roger Clemens is 2-4 in World Series stands and has never pitched a no hitter... and then I kind of couldn't figure out what the fuck you're talking about.

OK, Ice, if it's so great up there, why do you fly all the way to Utah to ski every year? Half these kids have never seen powder.

What time did you start drinking tonight? "Serviceable"? HE COST 28 MILLION DOLLARS. Hes been a fucking bust. JD Drew was at least only half that. We arent comparing past seasons here- or how proven Dice K is. Roger Clemens has thus far been a fucking bust. This season. I know he is proven. He has 7 Cy Youngs. I know this. But this year he has not been worth 28 million*prorated* dollars. Why would you doubt hes getting what they say? Hes a mercenary looking for every last dollar, who is getting his salary? The lawyers and accountants have their own salaries.

Plus, Clemens is an asshole. Listen to him sometime.

And he choked every time it counted when he was here. Fucking gagged.

I hate that guy enough to say I'd rather lose without him than win with him.

I may get a chance to re-evaluate that, stay tuned.
