Craigslist score!

It's amazing what you can find on Craigslist sometimes. I was thinking of getting a stationary trainer for winter, and found myself a top line indoor spin cycle instead.

The latest addition to my bike quiver - a CycleOps Pro 300PT:

Got it for less than half price and almost new. Includes PowerTap torque, cadence and speed sensors and a HR monitor.

There isn't enough money to pay me to ride on a trainer now that I don't race. If it is too shitty to ride I will find something better to do than sit on some trainer.

Whoah, Freaky. I just noticed that he has the exact same bikes as my girlfriend and I do!!

I mean, what are the od... hang on... that's my living room. Whoops. My bad.

And yes, the ETSX hasn't disspointed me in the slightest. It's the funnest XC bike I've ever ridden.

I sold mine ultra-stoopid cheap to a friend in Peru...loved that bike. It was like a CC bike on roids, gawd that thing could climb. I had it down to 25 pounds or so, with real tires. I am shopping for a new one, maybe. What is the travel on yours? mine was 4.5" max, I heard they upped it a bit.

Because I live in DC, which is flatter than Lindsey Lohan's chest and has little in the way of decent riding within sane driving distance. I figured I'd use it to supplement my regular riding with something resembling hill climbing.

Us DC people are desperate. We resort to doing strange things to get our fix.

I'm counting the days until I move back to the West...

You heard right. It's 5 inches travel, front and rear (rear is adjustable between 4 and 5"). Look into the '07 ETSX; I believe the '07 ETSX has a carbon fiber rear linkage so if weight matters to you, you might want to look into that.

I have already seen the 07', the carbon stays actually did not decrease weight....(and they were vapor-ware for 05' and 06'). I was a Rocky dealer for years...I would be happy with a used 18" demo 06', If i could find a frame for under $500. Possible, but a long shot. The 07's look good...

Pickup a copy of Spinervals uphill grind-its a good work out, if i can figure out how to use my burner i can send you a copy.

I second the Spinnervals suggestion. I use them when I'm forced to do Le Tour de Basement. Great workouts.

Please post a review of that trainer DerJaeger! I've been eyeing it for a long time, but I just can't justify the price. How realistic does it feel? How useful is the powertap info?

I would appreciate that, because I've been thinking I need to try one of the Spinterval DVDs before I go out and buy them -- I've heard that some people don't like the style of them. I have no idea what the alternatives are though, since I'm only just getting into the world of spin bikes.

I wanted to plug the bike into my PC and write some software to lead me through a workout based on my HR, cadence and the torque I'm currently outputting ... but the manufacturer refused to disclose the information I need to do this easily (they said it's "proprietary"). I guess I could reverse engineer it, but thats getting to the point where the effort isn't worth it.

Nice buy DJ. You'll love the PowerTap and the CycleOps has the USB connection so it rocks compared to the standalone. If you really wanna go nuts, (and spend some of the money you saved) get some PowerCranks. I rode them at a bike shop and was amazed--talk about learning to "spin". I just rarely ride my stationary (the LeMond Revmaster) and couldn't see riding on the road with them.

I tried that, but it turns out that the holder is way too small.

It is, however, just the right size for a water bottle or a bottle of Victory Whirlwind beer (my sports drink of choice).

Ill be drinking some victory tommmorow night, at the brewery.....the team I am joining meets there every wed night to kick off the training ride, they return for brews....im glad i picked this team.
