Puking down south right now. Looks like more on the way.
I have been in this State for 30 years and I am willing to admit that I am part of the problem.

2012 Montana Conditions, Stoke and Whatev Thread

Holiday season can be weird in Helena- one year it’s a snow globe and then for the next three it might be dry as a bone.

Started off with the annual family folf games.

And finally Kings Hill delivered a refresh.
Happily take what I am given out here.

Supposed to drive back to the coast soon, but not stoked on the awful pass conditions.

Familiar shape, yes, but Deviated Septum in your pic is a couple hundred yards further along the traverse. Mine is looking at Phone Booth from the lazy beotch side door, one of my faves.

Snowed all day at GD, much needed. They say maybe upper mountain will open tomorrow. Had a good time teaching my daughter's boyfriend how to ski. He's only skied a few times, mostly on those 5th grade and 8th grade school ski days. Amazing how much of a difference those two days make as opposed to being a never-ever. Kudos to the school districts that do that.

ETA: Upper mountain definitely opening tomorrow. Woot!

Norseman’s pic is the Phone Booth. I think Tom Jungst and those guys all had their own extensions, ie variations on how they liked to ski that line.

One of my favorites lines I ever got to do was that May we had the 100 inch base on Memorial Day. I got up top of the nose for sunrise on a beautiful post season morning. 6-8 inches of surfy graupel pow. I skied that cool spine up above toilet bowl. 5-6 turns with tips and tails hanging off either edge of the spine as I made delicate turns down the knife’s edge. Air off the end into toilet bowl and arc a huge turn into the chute. Here comes the sluff! Race the sluff toward the choke and air that pinnacle in between toilet bowl and phone booth into the raging slough stream. All in beautiful orange light. Run it out into a perfect pow apron.

Your picture is Tom Jungst in the Deviated Septum a bit further south on High T. That’s one of the best Bridger ski pics of all time. Extreme skiing was starting to go punk rock.

Norseman - you post a lot of good shit. Nice work dude.

Jenks - glad you got to ski something other than rain. : )

Shredeagle - That is a really cool story and it’s those little nuggets that make this place fun.

Big Sky was great today. The base was again a zoo but just about every other lift was walk on with fresh snow all over the mtn.

My kid and his buddy were parked off the side of the Hwy just North of Bridger today getting geared up to go tour when someone pulled over and yelled “Go back to Colorado Mother F&ckers” and then took off. Must be the stress of the holidays.

Said assholes were probably transplants from Boston six years ago now claiming local status. Saw a bit of the “local” flexing attitude recently at Snowbird.

No, he's got Montana plates now. He's in his 4th year at MSU. I told him he should have yelled back "I'm from Reno bitch."
He said the snow was good.

Still low tide at disco(what's new) but they opened a few runs off the granite today so that was nice. Maybe it was mentioned but while spinning laps with some bozeman friends they mentioned a slide/burial at BB in Bridger gully?
