    This ^^^

    I just don't understand how they are expecting a replacement joint to withstand the force generated at SuperG and Downhill speeds ;

I remember seeing her knee collapse in 2016 or 2017 and thinking, ' her body is no longer able. '

to me, it is Sad she has not been able to find something else to Do in the past five years -

this has already ended sadly previously.

Thank you for the thrills and the memories, LindseyVonn ! !

One other thing, I'm not sure what this even means, other than she re-joined the US Ski Team. She's a legend. Maybe, the Walter Mitty in her dreams that she may make it to a World Cup start. Maybe, she is just working out and skiing with the team in other capacities. There are plenty of 16 year old girls who have dreams of World Cup podiums who are "members" of the USSA-ski. Maybe this is an attempt/stunt to increase recognition of the sport in the USA, other than on a WC level. While I am pulling for her, and wish her well, I would be totally surprised if I ever see her start a WC event, no less achieve a top 30. I have to admit that I am seeing this as something similar to Bobby Riggs v. Billie Jean King.

I've never been in the Vonn-obsessive wing of the fan club, but if she needs to bite someone's ear, I will take one for the team.

I like that perspective. She'd maybe be a great coach and mentor to the youngsters. I was always a bigger fan of Julia and Lindsey seemed kind of...ahh...anyway her DH skiing was 2nd to none and was always stoked to see her rip.

There is no way she's announcing a return to ski racing and doesn't fully expect to start a WC race. And no way the US Ski Team announces she's joining the team without knowing that and having some agreement with her in that respect.

I don't know but, perhaps a 40 year old female has more prospects then a 40 year old male.

Did she ever get bad or just injuries?

I have to think the lifestyle and all that is worth it who cares if you come last in a few races. Would boost attendance if she goes to K.

I could see her doing well at the same courses she has done well at in the past- Lake Louise, Cortina, etc.
I agree DH does have some elder folks doing ok, so I'm wrong there all right. You have to admit though that 39 and younger have won a large majority of all disciplines of WC races.

    OK.

Lake Louise would have been good for her. Too bad it's not happening anymore. Although we would have even less terrain open than we do if they had to have been making snow for the races.
That's a valid point regarding coming back after 40 from major knee surgeries and racing at a WC level. Sucks that Louise won't be hosting another DH anytime soon. Many a fond memory watching races there.

Look around.... Mike Tyson..... Bill Johnson....Phil Mahre....all aged athletes who tried (or are trying) comebacks. By comparison, LV is relatively young. In the NFL and NBA, there are athletes still competing who've never initially retired who are older than her. Sometimes people can't give up the endorphins of competition even if they risk serious physical damage. This isn't that shocking to me.

Skiing the Strief at night in sections does not really count though.

Bill Johnson the skiier seems a bit of wild card, and he wasn’t very much older he crashed a week short of 41. She’s eyeing for a bit over a year out and the italy Winter Olympics, on a course she did well

Total wildcard. Thing about Bill Johnson too is didn't train IIRC. Even pre retirement I don't think he was a fan of actually training but especially for his comeback. He just jumped in there pretty much off the couch, unfortunately with the expected result. Tragic but there it is. Vonn is no stranger to hard work. I'm sure she's already working her ass off. DH's always a big risk. More so at 40 for sure. I hope she stays healthy and makes a good go of it, I think she's got a good chance of at least starting, maybe more.

    Yes.

Tyson is going to win tonight because they want a trilogy and as much $$$ as possible. Tiger will never play a smaller non major golf tournament again other than his own but if he does it could boost attendance by 5-10x.

Can't cheat the gates but if shes close might as well keep skiing. Was always bigger and a better natural athlete than everyone else.

I am very surprised to hear this. I recall an interview with her near the end of her career and she described her body as wrecked with constant pain.

She probably has all the money she needs, been with all the fancy guys, lived the high life and messed around as a celebrity and is bored. She probably needs to go fast to feel much. I hope she goes fast.

I totally disagree with that. I think that she is all about publicity and glamour, and will do whatever she can to feel important and live life large. I just wonder how the USSA-ski is going to interfere with her contractual obligation to Three Forks Ranch.

I think I read somewhere that she can receive a wild card entry to any race she's won in the past, which is probably just about all of them.

I’m with you. Every.fucking.time I open the skiing topic on my Apple News feed, there is some article about her clothing, some fashion accessories or who she’s hanging out with. Total media slut

Do you get to rawdog her butt for $1995/night at three forks?

No comparison? I don't follow ski racing like some, but has any other US gold metal winner come out of retirement at a ripe old age aside from Bill and now Lindsey?

(( There was an old guy ( age 50 ) who 'came out of retirement' in 2009(?) and raced the NorAm circuit in the Pacific Northwest, who just missed qualifying for Nationals
( he declined an Invitation to race Nationals, saying he wanted to have 'earned it' if he was going to race the National Championships ).

    Thank You, PhilM. ))
