What is going thru Lindsey's mind right about now. Back to back DNF's are never fun

I'm old. I guess I'm a "has-been", but hey that's better than a "never-was"!

Or in the mind of a champion, "I'm going to win the next race!!!" That's probably what she's thinking.

Her time was in the top five when she fell. She’s probably analyzing it and thinking about what she could do better. Just like any athlete.

Lindsey's segments:
33rd, 23rd, 28th, 5th, 26th DNF.
Happy that she only missed a gate, and did not fall. Still wondering what is in store for the rest of the season, and her future career as a ski racer.

Future career?

She’s already had that, second most successful ski racer of all time? This is just gravy for her, something to do to feed her competitive spirit. And she’s not doing bad at all. Still in the top third of the pack for the overall. 35th of 111 with FIS points. 21st in DH, 15th in SG, 35th in GS. She’s still getting her feet under her and clearly has the potential to improve on that a lot. A couple DNFs is nothing in the big picture. Shiffrin did it last year IIRC and in at least one other past season including the Olympics flops. Vonn’s definitely got the head game to get past it and keep moving forward. I bet she’s a good influence on the team in that regard.

I agree with you. We are all talking about Lindsey. I think that she’s a great role model.

Lately, I have been wondering about Lindsey Vonn and what has motivated her to return to racing. I think that she must have Feb. 6-8 circled in her calendar. Not that she is not already the "queen" of women's WC racing, but to reach the podium in a World Championship SG or Downhill at age 40+ would be a multi-generational feat that would stand the test of time. It is possible. Saalbach is not a difficult course and it definitely favors gliders with fast skis. When it comes to work ethic, everyone agrees that Lindsey is a beast. This perception may be the result of social media and constant self-promotion, but there is no doubt that she is tough, focused and relentless in her pursuit of greatness. It will be interesting to see whether this "comeback" is a one and done event, or whether she really is aiming for the Cortina olympics. After all, lately she has a keen interest in Jan Sinner, and she usually gets what she wants. I do appreciate LV. Sometimes, I wish that she would happy just ripping up The Castle, a perfectly groomed Stein's, or having her way at the Yellowstone Club, but somehow that just doesn't seem like her. I will be sending her +++VIBES+++ next week in Austria.

Athletes at her level, no matter the sport, don't do well in "retirement". They are too driven.

That's my opinion anyway, we see it over and over again in every sport.

Being "driven" at a world class level is usually the result of being chased by internal demons, and demons don't retire.

Vonn was a DNF at the Super G today in Saalbach, Lauren Macuga on the podium in third. DH is on Feb 8th. Peacock has the races on live, in the middle of the night. Hopefully they get some replays up on their site, to make watching more feasible.

Vonn finished 15th in the DH today. Breezy Johnson on the top step of the podium taking the gold.

Great racing today with Breezy the first to go. She smoked the second half of the course and no one could get closer than 0.15secs.
And Macuga came in fifth.

You go girls!

Wish I didn’t have to get up at 0200 to see this but Peacock is being assholes about timely replays.

Congrats to Breezy! ICYWW, Lindsey finished 15th, 1.96 sec back; Goggia finished 16th, .01 behind Vonn.

Lindsey posted an easily misinterpreted social media post about her disappointment at not being paired with Mikaela for the team event after lobbying for the pairing. She deleted it and posted a very detailed clarification, but it wasn’t the best look.

Breezy and Mikaela together is a dynamite pairing and well earned by both athletes. Wish Vonn nothing but the best but I have to think she’ll understand that season results ruled the day here not a historic pairing that admittedly would have been cool to see.

Yeah, the idea that she would think a racer at the top of the game, Shiffrin, would want to team up with her rather than Johnson is laughable and kind of sad. This is why I hate comebacks. I doubt Shiffrin has much affection for LV anyway. Totally opposite personalities.

Shiffrin/Johnson won the team combined. For the DH portion and US racers
Macuga in first, Johnson 4 0.51 seconds back, Wiles 15 2.0 seconds back and Vonn 21 2.51 seconds back.
