I could be wrong, but always thought the hold up with mt biking was the USFS lease and Boulder county lease specified winter use only. And changing that is a lengthy and expensive process. If even possible with those two bureaucratic and red tape loving entities. Who knows…

That area is definitely a mess of agency owned, private land, and mining claims etc.

    Is Corona open yet?

Basically this…. Boulder county seems like a huge PIA to work with

Very true. Plus Ned has a say in things, and it’s not a ski town (basically a boulder commuter town) so they seem to just vote for minimizing traffic

Netherland is a ski and mountain bike town. It’s just that the forest service has it shut down for elk breeding season in the summer and we don’t have any say in it. Personally, I wish they would just open up Moffett tunnel and make getting to Winter Park easier.

Imagine that. Or a third bore. That could divert quite a bit of traffic from I70 for WP and Steamboat.

Is there really elk breeding at Eldora ski area? Right in the middle of International? [emoji849]

Figured it was due to the Preble’s meadow jumping mouse

Each year we ride to Winter Park for lunch and back. The preferred route is the pipeline from the top of Eldora. Typically we do a lil Jenny Creek end-around to bypass the lower part of Eldora JIC.
One year we're riding up the shelf road and LOTS of cars are passing us. Get up to the parking lot and people are getting ready for an XTERRA triathlon, so we center-punch it up the cattrack. Almost at the top we get passed by an Eldora pick-up who just nods and waves - assuming we're part of the race? Surprised they didn't stop us.

There's no point to this story, just wanted my voice heard on the internet.

The whole Jenny Creek fiasco is a sore point for me. The old Management tried their best to shut off access to the national forest year round via the trailhead at the gate of Eldora. Now you can park at the Nordic center for access but now they make you get a pass to access the trail. It worked the first time I used it, but then I had to bypass the gate each time there after, I guess they make you get one every day to make it valid. Fuck that noise last time I was there I just sidestepped the gate and kept on trucking.

    Eldora clusterfuck Friday?

I used to ride a bunch with an older dude I worked with and his buddies. They were all 60+ and still got after it hard. It still motivates me and I often think “ I want to be like THAT when I’m their age!”. Anyways, getting off topic, I digress…

My buddy always liked rides with any element of, ehh, encroaching, shall we say…one 4th of July we parked at the gate, jumped on JC, may have enjoyed a few nordic trails on our way to connecting to the road and going up and over RP. On the way back we took that trail XtrP mentioned. I think it was that one. Straight shot from RP Rd to top of Corona. Nice singletrack. Buncha young trees at the time I remember. We figured the chances of anyone being up there on the holiday were slim, but bombing down the cat track had an added element of excitement. “If you see anyone just ride faster!!”

Also no point to my story, but was just reminded of that ride by this discussion. Good times.

Anyone ridden that new Tolland trail?

Ski related: are we gonna get that Jolly Jug lift still?

    Wednesday, October 23: 6-8 PM

Tolland trail was fine. Overlook at the apex. Otherwise pretty plain. Pain to get to from mag, of course. I’m now the guy complaining about how my taxes get a couple few miles of rideable single track every 10 years and I’m supposed to be grateful [emoji23]

It's snowing up here, right now. I came up for the new lodge opening. It's really nice. The snow guns are blazing, too.

So your current Mayor is named Billy with no last name, or is Billy their last name?

They would kill it with night skiing, night time bus service up and back from Boulder and lift accessed MTB in the summer.
