I bussed up for an early skin session Monday - some nice soft turns. But noticed alpenglo not yet spinning @ like 845, a bad sign. That little bit of snow also jacked up the RTD 913am return bus schedule.
Eldo still has that early 80s vibe where anything could go wrong at any moment - the trip up, the lifts, power

Not that I have a pass there, but the Nordic Center hasn't opened yet this year. That must suck for a lot of people.

That probably does suck for some, as there are some avid Nordic skiers around here. I'm only an occasional skate and track skier, but I used to do it at Eldora frequently when they let you use your alpine ticket/pass to access the Nordic Center. They stopped doing that years ago, and I haven't used the Nordic Center there since. If it was a better Nordic area, e.g., like Snow Mountain Ranch or Devil's Thumb, I would probably buy the pass.

BTW, if you have an alpine season pass for Eldora, you do get a discount on the Nordic pass: $149 for weekdays, or $229 for an unlimited pass. They don't have the Nordic day-pass cost listed right now, I guess since they haven't opened yet.

Eldora has a captive audience of Boulderites and thus doesn't need to meet basic expectation of what constitutes quality service. Management only needs to piss off customers less than I70 traffic. This is what defines the place.

I was up yesterday for a volunteer day and the snow was nice and soft and there was little wind. Weird.

Was up today for some downhill and some uphill. Super soft conditions (along the sides). Very cold and windy. Skiied really really nicely and was empty. Beers at knotted root afterwards. Happy Friday !

    Eldora clusterfuck Friday?

Maybe me too. I was first chair today. Got some good turns. But I’m gonna decide in the morning. Also, 20 degrees colder up there tomorrow.

Eldora’s website has to be jacked up cause it’s reporting -18.

I think it’s more like 9 dropping to -5 by end of day ish.

    I bailed.

Now it says -19. My guess is that with Berthoud closed and all the snow that -19 number is fake and meant to stem the crowds. I’m out with my 5 and 8 year old girls.

Well that was fucking sick. I take back everything bad I ever said about eldora (except the shitty techno they play at the base). Amazing there today. Pretty much had to go in every 2-3 laps to melt the ice on my goggles.

I’ve never seen more people hanging out inside a lodge. It was great bc basically no lift lines and an empty mtn. It was brutally cold the digital temp on top of alpenglow chair said -14. It felt like it. Also not sure about 20 inches but it was still deep af Click image for larger version.

Agreed, yesterday was outstanding. And cold. But mainly awesome. Between the cold and the road shenanigans, crowds were much less bad than I might have guessed and we got plenty of untracked. Nice that they started loading about 8:35, reducing the initial wait time in the maze lines (wasn't sure whether it'd be 8:30 or 9).

The top of Corona was making a rather unsettling noise for a bunch of laps, kinda figured that was why they shut it when they did (saw operations folks checking it out, figured we were rolling the dice every time we skied back down, but didn't get stuck and we had skied it up pretty well by the time they pushed us all back to the front side...).

Worst part of the day was the drive back, and that really wasn't bad - bus stuck on shelf road, bozo driving 18 mph down boulder canyon, even taking vid/pics out the window at one point...

Nice to revitalize my love of pow, and to put my legs on notice that skiing isn't just short groomer days.

    Today will be great too.

I was up there, today, to volunteer and the snow is holding up great. All the glades were open and they were blasting west ridge. I'll probably go back up on Friday.
