Diablerets is a nice touristy resort town which has 5 times the inhabitants of Zinal, which you recommended.

But people who try to save Verbier from the grip of Corporate billionaires by assembling the the true mountain millionaires may have a different sense of Humor.

There are definitely proper jobs in the restaurants.
- The best skiing you can find (provided you have sufficient mountain skills and spend enough time there to know where to go)

I was being humorous....
But the problem is that everyone goes there to ski proper stuff which makes it really competitive. I would not be wanting to race to the trifides to ski it first on every avie level 3 day ( probably even a 4 these days...if they open the top in a 4).

It's definitely a better place than val thorens or tigne culture wise, but skiing is usually more relaxed in those big French mega resorts. Plus there are quite a few smaller resorts around which are off the beaten path. Which is not the case for la grave.

And it's "always" windy when it dumps.....believe me I've really tried to find good snow there quite a few times [emoji3]

It’s just about our closest local resort so we used to ski in Villars / Diablerets until my kids got bored of it when they were about 8, when we moved up to Verbier, which is in a different league. Keep in mind the Villars / Les Diablerets ski area maxes out at 2100m which is just way too low these days unless you like skiing in the rain. G3000, up the road, is basically a flat glacier with a few blue runs on it. But you can also ride down the front which is a decent option for a stable powder day if you’re on the Magic Pass but recommending it for the season to an athlete is daft.

Jack did seasons recently at La Grave and Verbier (based in Le Chable) and is a strong skier and Alpinist. Re La Grave you might want to take his advice over the guy who last went there 15 years ago and found it too windy ?
With transport you also have local options in Monetier (Serre Chevalier) and the via Lattea (Montgenevre) which often have very different conditions being the other side of the Col de Lauteret. There is also some fabulous touring in the Écrins National Park which comes into its own in the Spring. It is where I’d choose based on what your mates kid is looking for.

Heh. I mean I left out some explaination. There are some around ( L7L, serre et al....). but they are known and frequented by the La grave crowd, whereas the inner isere ones are basically terra incognita for all but locals .... I haven't heard of anyone who's been. [emoji6]

On the windy or bad condition days, we'd bomb around to lots of spots within 2 hours drive: Vars/Risoul, Puy St. Vincent, drove by the Queyras spots, hit both Serre and the Milky Way as well as forays over to the Maurienne valley including Val Cenis and Val Frejus with one day an extra half hour to get to Orelle and access Val Thorens/Trois Vallees.

We liked Monetier a lot as a base one year and I'd consider using Briancon/Monetier as a base again. If GFTs pals son can get a car, I'd recommend that as incredible access to mindblowing skiing.

During one of those years, we did a loop from LG to Alagna/Zermatt/Champoluc/Gressoney, then back to La Thuile and skied over to La Rosiere and stayed in St, Foy for a couple of nights, but didn't make it up to Val d'Isere/Tignes or hit Les Arcs/La Plagne. I'd consider Alagna, but I think snow there can be iffy despite the amazing terrain.

I've always thought Bourg St. Maurice would be a decent spot to base out of for an extended ski time. From there, there's public transport to Val d'Isere/Tignes or hit Les Arcs/La Plagne which would provide well more than a seasons entertainment. But I haven't been to Bourg St. Maurice, so this is all based off of my dentists magazines.

But I do keep getting drawn back to Rueras for the skiing around Andermatt/Disentis and the hospitality of vendul at mtlodge.

Good skiing, low crowds, a bit of real culture and a job.
La grave fits the first, fourth and maybe the third. Gary probably knew about La Grave before because he's not clueless.

And Chamonix and Verbier, so guess what I did I came up with ideas get get you terrain and snow with less stress and still being able to work and live.

Of course la grave is fucking great, especially for a season. But every one else thinks so too. The fact that you don't get my point is the reason why you live where you live.

Diablerets has plenty of tourists to work, but is a true town unlike whatever the fuck Verbier is. Oh right it's a "destination resort on a whole different level".

And oh no it rains when you work in the village down in diablerets? Soo?

And if you're in the magic pass area you have all that Variation for 400Chf. In verbier you have VERBIER for Show me your AMEX Black.

And by god. I've tried to Refrain from going personal, but here we go. As a mediocre rich ex pat totally full of yourself of course you're happy skiing Verbier and being totally oblivious.

In all those years you've never skied to the village from the top of g3000? Figures. You're probably in over your head skiing the combe.

It's the only new area I've been to in the last 10 years where I've actually been on the edge while people showed me around. There is so much terrain and it's big, has exposure nearly all the time and takes Route finding skills. I flat out refused the idea to to do one of the frontside variations which goes all the way to the left from the tram and into a completely different face. Nobody else skied it that day. On the second blue bird day.

The Black wall has opened up some of the sickest tree skiing options.

In contrast to you I don't think my ideas, ski areas, places to live are better than everybody elses. Hell, im the guy who still goes to Engelberg despite hating crowds. Would I go there for a season? No. Would I recommend skiing there if I spent a season in the area? Sure.
