Isn't a dually with at least 1 piece of punisher or flag flare really the ONLY way to show you are a True Patriot(tm) now that dentists have 3/4 tons?

You should have a truck at least big enough to carry 1/4 of your arsenal at any one point. Basic tactics.

Plus you’ll need space for the rapid response team from your local militia for when antifa invades your town.

    Trucks.

Sure… I just see a more enjoyable world where in lieu of buying a $100k ballroom truck you buy a $70k 5series and a used $30k tow rig. Then you’re enjoying your commute and not spending big bucks on a big tank, big tires, big brakes, etc….

Yeah, if you are gonna hate on all excessive consumerism and such try not to be a hypocrite about it. It's old. Travel, clothes, bikes, snowmobiles, boats, 2nd homes, bathrooms remodels...it doesn't end.

Sitting here at an environmental/economic seminar. Thinking about what truck is actually most fuel efficient and/or least environmental impact. 3.0L duramax chevy? Hybrid Tundra (dirty batteries in it?). Regular 3rd generation Tundra with the 3.5L gasser?

Assuming he is lets set some parameters and see where to go.

Has to be 4x4. Has to haul 1k lbs and 4 people. Minimum 6' bed.

I honestly have no idea. I know that just roll with the best 3/4 ton gasser I can afford and drive it until its about dead.

I also have no idea what changes the average person can do to reduce their carbon footprint. But hey, I recycle and I don't have enough money to jet set or own a vacation home so I'm good right?

I'm getting between 21 and 22 in town and regularly over 27 on the highway in the heep with the ecodiesel. Fails the minimum bed length requirement but an amusing data point nevertheless

2 in the back of the Ranger extra cab? Its been done. Personally, I drive the work truck that makes the most sense financially. The 2013 F250 works for me. Would my Carbon Footprint go down if I bought a fancy half ton that gets maybe 5mpg better? No idea.

Pretty much this. If a truck is a must, the smallest, most fuel efficient 2nd hand vehicle is the best for the environment IMO.

We are not going to consume our way out of a consumption problem.

I'd love to believe that because it is pretty much my style, but is it true? So all the gas guzzler buy back programs for EVs are environmentally net negative? https://www.cpr.org/2023/08/29/color...change-rebate/

1k of cargo or 1k total payload?

The four people better be smaller than the average American, or four people plus that payload in a 4x4 is going to be a carefully configured half ton or at least a 3/4 ton.

Use pattern has to have a significant impact on footprint, too. My F-150 has very different mileage with a trailer attached, whereas that 3/4-ton gasser probably changes a lot less. If 1% of your mileage is pulling a trailer, that's a different impact than if 80% is.

Issue is that our environmental problems are multi-faceted. Of course the latest buzz is global temps rising due to greenhouse gas. But during my uni environmental studies last century #1 was potable water, #2 was loss of productive soil, and #3 was biodiversity loss. Those have not gone away, if anything have gotten worse, exasperated even by increased energy in the climate system.

I truly think that unless we have a tech breakthrough of massive proportions, we will exceed our emissions and temp increase targets. The poorest will still suffer the greatest. And the richest will continue to consume as much as the diverted money supply will allow them. Hard to change that behaviour, our entire economic (divergent) system is based on ever-increasing consumption. Buying a EV is great, selling the ICE and investing/using public transit instead would be better. But shiny new things and a false sense ‘independence’ or ‘exceptionalism’ are hard to deny in our NA culture.
