    Deadly Floods

I’ve been out of pocket for a few weeks so forgive me if I missed a thread on the topic that already exists. I have to say the news of these floods in Texas, NM and elsewhere has been particularly heartbreaking. We picked our son up after a few weeks at Camp the other week and I couldn’t imagine being a parent of one of the dozens of young girls who don’t get to pick their daughter up after dropping them off for a few weeks of summertime fun. Just gut-wrenching.
I’m sure there will be blame placed and arguments over what could have been done, but the sad truth is, none of that will bring those poor kids back to their grieving families. I guess I just wanted to say my heart goes out to those who lost children who were just doing what thousands of young innocent kids do every summer with their friends - going off to camp to have fun and grow up a little bit more with their friends.
I still call it The Jake.

An absolutely terrible tragedy. Now, nearly 200 deaths. A huge loss to the surrounding communities.

Lots of heroism too preventing even more loss. A dog named Hazel at Camp La Junta alerted sleeping campers to rising waters. A KPMG finance bro from New Jersey quit his job to join the Coast Guard as a rescue swimmer is credited with assisting the rescue of ~190 campers. Construction workers driving heavy frontloaders into flood water to rescue people on roof tops. The campers themselves, lots of brave girls
