The link on the homepage to the most recent trailhead update is broken, but from the observations page

"For the intrepid, a bike with skis could work well to access, but would involve on again, off again riding on dirt and walking on snow patches to get to the trailhead. Once could skin from about 6,000 feet and higher. The snow is melting fast however and within a week or two, significant distance will be knocked off the mileage."

Hard for shasta avalanche center to link properly to their 6/3 update apparently, the home page link still goes to the 5/18 update. Thanks fleaches, that helps.

Shasta to close out the season on 7/14. Hotlum/Wintun from Brewers Creek trailhead. Hiked to 8,200, skinned to 11,500 before booting. Crossing over to the Wintun before getting back to snow was much longer than typical. Cuff boot penetration by 1:30 p.m. Name: IMG_3566.jpg

Other than Ash Creek running across the road low down, it was in the best shape I've ever seen it. Easily passable in sedan/low clearance vehicle. What a year.

The recent storms have left a good spackling above 8,000’. It’s the start of the new season. Good timing being the solstice and allClick image for larger version.

So above 8,000 did you hit any rocks, or if the coverage ok?

The recent storms were classic el nino with dense spackle coating the rocks. Although it's not deep, about 2-4', it's dense Cascade plaster and there was no concern for hitting buried obstacles. Hopefully storms will be consistent to refresh the surface, this feels like a good base.

Nice, Lee. Was talking to my old man recently and he was getting pretty sick of running Black Butte.

It warmed up and looks pretty soggy for the next few days. I would look elsewhere until it cools off a bit.

Forecast seems to have popped for Shasta/Lassen, @leemurian with the cool sat night sun/mon seems like decent chance for good conditions?

That's great for 12,000' and the rec forecast is showing a 5,000' snow level with a good plume so much improved and yes Sun-Mon could be good to quite good

Thinking of heading up on Monday and skiing Tuesday. Would be good to hear about the conditions in the next few days.
Hopefully the snow will be a little softer than last week...

Skip to 2:37 for the skiing:

Pretty good yesterday and today around brokeoff above 8k. Rain crust underneath 3-7inches of fresh snow/wind deposition. Some wind affected areas, thin on south aspects that are seeing a lot of wind this season. A bit of hoar last night, prob will grow tonight.

    Lassen / Shasta Conditions Anyone?

10” of new snow with our lowest snow levels of the winter so far. First real powder day with friends was excellent today. Incoming weather looks like some potential to pile deep this weekend.
