Nope skied it yesterday, Monday. Went half way up misery and stopped at 11:45. Had to see how the skiing matched the description, it did. Been a great trip. Bunny flats just a bit down off the dirt road is so chill camping.

Cat - glad your volcano safari worked out.

Link to an interesting (?) rescue story, which apparently included a CHP heli landing on/near the summit and perhaps justification for being overweight if you are inclined to go unprepared and getting lost in the mountains? https://www.redding.com/story/news/2...s/74211823007/

And, a link to the Climbing Rangers' pictures from the north side from the heli: https://www.shastaavalanche.org/node...b-a50ba2671ea0

Change for a nickel? Who's solo tracks are coming down the Hotlum Headwall in the pic's?

Is that a premature left footed ejaculation?
    Walk mode?

Time spent skiing cannot be deducted from one's life.

Just a weird camera angle, plus those boots have a black heel and the skis are wide. I'm just sitting on the snow in that pic.

Edit: Got some high res photos from Nick. Stoked.

Thinking of driving up for the weekend for some early season warm up laps on the old ski bowl. Snow station data says 18 inches of depth up there, sounds like enough to have a bit of fun, but it would be a bummer to drive all that way and get skunked. Anyone been up there/have intel?

My buds have been out the last couple days. You can tour and turn but you will hit rocks. I’m surfing until it gets a little deeper after I almost ended my season before it started

Anyone planning to be up there this weekend? Looks like coverage will no longer be an issue. Snow sensors at Lassen and Shasta (6-7k) went from ~15-20in snow-depth to 50-60 (10 inches lower now due to the rain). Should revert back to snowing (heavily) above 6k so that wet mess should be covered up.

My main concern would be getting there (looks like quite a bit of flooding at lower elevations), and avvy danger. I think avvy danger can be managed by terrain choice (e.g. Green Butte Ridge) but maybe I'm underestimating things?

The Everett will likely remain closed through the weekend. The last few years siskiyou co has struggled to keep the road plowed so check before making the drive.

Based on this the gate at McBride is open?

However the expected refresher might not have happened based on the snow sensors I’m checking so it might be an icy mess. Down south at Lassen it’s
looking a little better. Tahoe and further south scored (as expected) on the overnight action but they had pretty much no base to start with.

    Lassen / Shasta Conditions Anyone?

The MS Avy center is the source for accurate info. And check out the recent obs, a good size slide in giddy giddy gulch.

    https://www.shastaavalanche.org/advi...#/mount-shasta

I don’t know why the county page is claiming it’s open. And with another winter storm warning this week it might be a bit longer.

Anyway, good skiing above 8,000’ according to my buds. I’m in Baja still and will be back home later this week and can post some updates.
