    Congratulations 👏
    Thats a huge accomplishment.
And I agree about WRG setting the bar high on the forum.
He was one of the first people I seen post here about his addiction and AF journey.
Shout out to Splat who always asked me why I drank so much alcohol.
    He was right ✅

    Thankyou ❤️
I'm just blown away how awesome life is without alcohol in it.
My addiction had me believing I needed to drink to have fun.
It invaded every aspect of my life.
    I now show others
    " by example "
that its a big lie that we need to poison ourselves to have fun.
I have more fun and am more reachable now then when I was intoxicated.
Our perception of what alcohol does for us is needs to change.
    Just like cigarettes.
I spent my first season skiing AF this year.
Last time that happened was 1980.
    Talk about being free!
    FUCK!!!! 😂😂😂😂
No more stress trying to get fucked up before I even stepped into my skis.
That was my addiction at work.
    Again THANKYOU Woodsy.

Kick ass ya'll. Like Woodys, I'm liking my life as a light drinker. Be honest with yourselves and do what works for you.

I had reached the point where alcohol was most definitely interfering with my fun activates, including skiing. Finding myself too drunk to ski/play drums/golf/etc.. when I really didn't want to be too drunk to perform at a high level.... That was the first clue that it was getting out of hand.

Yet I definitely wondered if I'd still enjoy stuff like that sober because I'd been rolling buzzed for decades..

    Congrats to you all!

It’s amazing how insidious it is. When I quit I realized pretty quick every aspect of life involved booze and drugs or both.

Sorry for jumping in this thread with this but I need some help for my brother. He's in a bad place. He's been on radio silence for quite a while but finally texted me this morning that he needs help bad. Sounds like a really bad scene, shit and piss and who the fuck knows. I'm sure he was hammered when he texted me and probably won't even remember texting me. I need to get him in somewhere medical pronto This is in Mass. Anybody got any ideas or knowledge for me?

Hospitals can usually refer a detox/mental crisis center that starts that process. They are usually either in the hospital or very close by. Don't worry about health insurance stuff. They'll take him regardless of that situation,

He had prostate cancer a few years ago, it may have come back, that may explain some of it, but he's been a heavy drinker all his life and lost his job a couple years ago and he's basically just been drinking since. Not sure what's what with him but I gotta do something pronto.

I searched on massachusetts alcoholic assistance and saw a number of places you could call that seemed like they might have good advice for you.

All I got, but having lost a brother to alcohol & drugs, I wish for the best outcome for you and your brother.

Asking around if anyone I know has any experience with any of them here in MA, I’ll post any responses here.

Good luck. Also wishing you and your brother the best.

Yeah man, mostly what's posted above. Sounds like he's asking for some help which is great. He's probably got to get into some detox. He's got to get into AA. Tons of ppl will be on the jump to help. Search local AA meeting and go. They will know what to do.

Friend’s mom cares for patients often sees them discharged from Adcare (Rhode Island) and Recovery Centers of America, national outfit.

    Daughter update.
5 days in the hospital after a bender
    10 days in detox
    38 days in rehab

Working on 100 meetings in 100 days.
Meds back in check and working well
Starting her Intense Out Patient therapy next week.

Moved her and her pup into my Mom's house, so she has a place to stay away from a resort town. She has a job lined up at a country store restaurant that doesn't serve alcohol. Starts in a week or two. Working cleaning a condo that my son-in-law just completed getting it ready to turn over to the owner.

So far so good, saying all the right stuff, fingers crossed this time.

I was also in a death spiral at the end of my drinking. I was hell bent on drinking myself to death.. until I found a reason to live. Short of that no detox or treatment or program would have mattered. I pray for everyone here and their troubled family members.. You have to decide you want to live and go to any length to stay alive. But you might have to detox before you can see that reality.

Hey Ice, it’s a harder road sometimes, but if you can get him to an ER and he is in as bad a shape as you say they can do a 72hr hold on him while you get the next step lined up. Could go a few ways, but hopefully if you catch him in a moment of lucidity you can get him into a longer stay somewhere. Catching him at the right time is key, as if the cravings dominate he may just go after the 72hr. As stated, he needs to want it to some degree and you can help keep him in motion. Best wishes to you my man,

    Sobriety, V2.

some rehabs will require the detox at a medical facility first

when I went to rehab they sent me to the hospital to detox first but I’d already been off the beer for a couple weeks so it didn’t matter - but they required I go there first - the hospital kicked me to rehab the next morning - the guy in the bed next to me had a heart attack and died while I was eating pizza I DoorDashed to the hospital
I didn't believe in reincarnation when I was your age either.
