Some people drink at something, some eat at something, some run endless miles at something, etc. Unresolved shit can manifest in many ways in how we distract and escape from it. It is often more scary in our heads than in reality. I felt the shame and guilt over it, until I was too sick and tired to fight it anymore. Come to find out, I am not the only one that has happened to. Who knew? Still fairly solitary in this world, but I have a tribe. And we can laugh at a lot of the shit that used to just bring feelings of shame.
Sad watching others suffer knowing they have to want and find it themselves. It was really hard until it wasn’t.

I found my own way, with quite a bit of trouble, over a mountain of shit to get to where I am, my bro can't bs me. He's pushed everyone away for a long time but now that I had to get involved, I'm involved.

I'm so glad that yesterday when I was drunk and I posted that that you managed to turn the tables into a discussion about obesity instead of calling me out on my BS, which was a cry I was hoping to hear answered.

I wasn't even "that" drunk, just a few drinks in. But it was enough for my second personality to voice itself. And you all didn't even blink. Almost intentionally. Because if you had, I'd have been clamoring on to your "support."

Thanks for that. That was the subtle, "You need to take care of yourself." nudge that I wanted to hear. (The TRGs are strong with this group.)

I'm better today. Not wanting to die, anyway.

    *Edit

Maybe the death of my wife's colleague, a young 18yo boy... a young boy who called my wife his work-mom... is forcing me to face reality a bit. Nothing worse than holding your wife's sobbing world in your arms. Even being the pillow is draining.

The truth is that you have to be ready to do ANYTHING to not die.. beyond actually realizing dying fucks over everyone who cares about you, present company included.

I recommend finding a meeting. It's the only way I know of that works for all the other people I know in recovery. There are likely mags in your area who can help you get to one.

I lost one of my own children. I know plenty about sorrow. Most of us have experienced unspeakable tragedy at some point or another but find a way not to drink over it when it happens. Good luck and hope you decide to make the change.

Not sure where you have been in the last 20 years. She started into her career as the First season winner of American Idol, Singing career with more than 10 albums out now (she has done some Concert touring and now a regular act in Las Vegas) and now also TV star with a seat as a Judge on The Voice, has as stated her own daytime talk show.

The phrase that really helped me over the years has been:
“There is absolutely no situation that a drink couldn’t make worse”.

    It is profoundly true.

I’ve been living life, not watching TV, don’t listen to commercial radio or follow any social media other than TGR. Maybe I’m missing out?

You know, once you reach a certain age nobody else in your crowd gives a fuck if you're drinking or not when out hanging out and doing stuff. Well, most people don't.... unless...

It's way harder to chill out and around with your friends late teens to mid 20s when they're all in party mode. I will say.. One thing that helped me was remembering how sad and pathetic I thought it was to see some dude/lady in their 40s+ totally wasted in public. Realizing that I was that guy is a lot of what made me conclude it really was time for me to stop.

You must really live in a bubble if you've never even heard of Kelly Clarkson. Great if it works for you. Personally I like to know what's going on in the world, and that includes some pop culture.

I read AP NEWS most mornings and listen to NPR. Pop culture is overrated in my opinion.

I had zero idea who Kelly Clarkson was until this thread. I had heard the name over the years, but I assumed it was a dude. No idea music was involved, I figured sports, maybe NFL.
