Very first night after being dropped off at college we got pulled over driving through the campus with at least 9 people in the car (some sitting in an open trunk) plus quite a stock of newly purchased alcohol. Of course, we were all under age. Most of my new friends scattered hard, myself included, and caught up with the driver later on. I think they got a light ticket. And that was probably the least interesting thing that happened that night. By a lot.

My parents were still in town the next day which made breakfast with them kinda of interesting. "How was your first night at college?" "Oh, it was cool but not much happened..."

On the other hand my dad, while in college, once threw a keg party in the back of a box truck while driving around, so I don't think he'd have been overly surprised.

12 stinky Deadheads on Easter Night going home from a great 3 day run of shows at Irvine in a 74 Ford campervan for 500 miles was interesting but not too crowded, until we ran out of beer, other than being so heavy some of the hills on I40 had me down to 30mph. We came up 100 feet short of one of the gas stations because it was uphill from the exit ramp.

This place gets some pretty great reviews, one called it the best ice cream shop in the country. I'll have to go confirm next time I'm in the zone. https://spottedduck.com/

There’s a short carry down from the parking lot to get on the water

It’s not really worth the trouble. Minnewaska is overrun most summer weekends. Honestly, the whole New Paltz area is more trouble than it’s worth unless you’re going rock climbing but I have an Empire Pass so I didn’t have to pay extra to park and I already paid for the Palisades boating pass so I figured I’d see if the rain would keep the crowds away.

A lap of the lake only takes about twenty minutes so after a couple times back and forth, I put my boat back up and did another lap on foot. Nice spot. Go when it’s raining though.

I wonder if all the escaped bison in Cherry Valley got rounded back up. We may have the beginnings of a wild native population in CNY.

hard tellin’ not knowin’… fucking cops, never share info with us. i can tell ya this much though, ain’t never a good idea to fuck around in oswego harbor, especially during harbor fest. we got local cops, we got sheriff cops, we got state cops, we got border patrol cops, we got fbi cops, we got nuclear regulatory agency cops, we got boatloads of coast guard cops with a side order coast guard auxiliary dweebs, and we got shitloads of dec cops…

and all them good old boys were in town for harbor fest. rackin’ up piles ‘o overtime whilst ripping round town on their four wheelers an jets skis all whoopin’ an hollerin with glee as they be “protectin’ an servin’” the shit out of the citizenry.

all I know is 2 “solo” sailboaters showed up in the harbor about six hours apart. half an hour after tyin’ up, boater off the first boat, goes to talk to the boater off the second boat… few minutes after that them fuckers got swarmed, cuffed, stuffed and trundled away.

now, with ol’ harbor fest going on, we just can’t have any non-revenue generatin’ boats taking up space in the harbor what could be makin’ teh town revenue. so a group of detectives were pulled from major case teams and dedicated to solving this crisis of revenue.

the detectives are pissed, but they have a cunning plan. they call it “pass the buck”… so they go to the guy at lock seven n they say, “we’re just gonna leave these boats in your lock this weekend cause we’re worried about people breaking into them so we’re gonna leave them in here all weekend so you can take care of them and keep ‘em from bein’ burgled for use. we be back with a crane an shit ta yank it out of the lock sometime later on.”

well, that didn’t fly, huge interagency kerfuffle all the way up to the higher ups in albany. they finally got told to get their shit the fuck out of our locks. hence operation boat hoist. clearly them boys have never hoisted boats before. crane guy shows up, says what the fuck? that there’s nothin’ but a damn swamp next to that there lock. how the fuck am I supposed to set up my goddamn crane? so, after some fucking head scratching, they finally figure out that the wall above my lock has been hardened fer cranes. can’t get one past them detective’s… an they set to luggin’ the whole fucking aquatic circus up above my lock and proceeded to literally beat the fucking shit out of the boats as they tried ta yank them out of the water. wouldn’t budge because crane guy brought his small crane. which is fuckin’ hilarious, cause crane guy knows what his crane can lift. but he charges by the hour with an extra charge per machine. so after makin’ a big show with the little crane, he gots to bring out the big fucking camouflage lifter an drag the whole operation out to an eight hour affair. duder made a good $3500 off the government fer his services, when all was said and done.

I’m going with they were smuggling mushy watermelons north to sell to deviant teenage cannuckians. Deal went bad. The undercover customs special agent had to pull the cord on his backup and all hell broke loose

Those are some legit nice docking slips and anchorages (bonus for the prop cuts through the seagrass) and funny how homeboy with a crane failed to mention the availability of a working dock, hoist and likely blocks to park said "evidence" boat on. Sounds like the entire outfit found a way to enhance revenue that day.
