KQ, do you give your kitties flea AND tic poison? I hate those dispicable creatures.
I haven't for a long time. Cats, as long as they can reach everywhere, generally clean ticks off before they can attach. My one cat who had two is a big boy and can't reach around to center of his back which is where I found the ticks - one by his head and the other by his tail.
As for fleas they aren't a huge problem in my area, *knock on wood*

This wild ass got out again last night. Pushed the screen out of the window. Again. Someone must have left it cracked open ever so slightly and he slid it open. 1 Am and I'm walking around the hood calling his name and shaking a pack of treats. After about a half hour a skunk come flying by with him in hot pursuit. Amazed he (or me) didn't get sprayed. Finally got him in and called it a night.
Here's a pic of him killing something, since that's all he seems to be interested in.

Sigh, our Freya wants out so badly. I left the screen door ajar the other day and my wife saw her out on the patio. She called her to come back as Freya walked away, so I went around the house to head her off. She came around the corner, saw me and ran back into the house. At least she knows what I want from her.
Now that we have 3 indoor cats, the doggy doors are closed, which means multiple times a day and night (like 3am) I have to take my two old dogs out to do their business. Last night I told my wife I am over it and when they pass away I will not adopt another dog, as not having doggy door access due to indoor cats is killing me. She was not happy with me. I told her we are cat people now.
Never in U.S. history has the public chosen leadership this malevolent. The moral clarity of their decision is crystalline, particularly knowing how Trump will regard his slim margin as a “mandate” to do his worst. We’ve learned something about America that we didn’t know, or perhaps didn’t believe, and it’ll forever color our individual judgments of who and what we are.
Good kitteh.

“Put the bunny down!!”
What a handsome boy. Looks like my Mischa.
Been meaning to mention this to everyone: There is an artist here in W2 who does beautiful pet portraits. Her studio is called Dilly Dally Studios. This is her Etsy page:

She did a lovely potrait of my Mischa.

WTF is going on here? This is something Chilkat has done daily for the past 3 years or so. What you see is ~24 hours worth of accumulation... We vacuum the ottoman (his throne) every evening. Note the pile on the floor near the food bowl as well.
10 y.o. indoor/outdoor cat, hasn't had fleas in years. I've had several cats growing up and this would have been a few weeks worth of hair from any one of them. No bald/sensitive spots. He just pulls out mouthfuls of hair when grooming himself and spits it out.

Is he over grooming? I had a barn cat that would give himself a Brazilian. Never figured out why. He has since stopped.
Seems like all my cats are shedding extra hard this year. Maybe get a grooming mit or Furminator. Just be sure to use them outside or in the garage.

Not really--he does groom but he's rarely clean. Pulling out the hair is a result of him biting down and intentionally pulling clumps out.
Grooming mitt! I didn't know such a thing existed. I'm going to try that--thanks. I've tried a brush but he's adverse to that... I bet the mitt will feel more natural since he does like full hand pets.
Mayhem is a filthy creature.
She is part Maine Coon Cat. She has the characteristic hair, including dual length. She leaves a ton of it around. And she gacks up ginormous hairballs wherever she thinks we have the best chance of stepping in them. They are the size of large cat turds. She makes quite the racket doing it with full Coon vocals. It's not a noise that you will ever forget and if you hear it, you had best go find her and toss her out the door or even a window. She caught me in the middle of a conference call that I was presenting. I had to just keep talking through it. I wanted to barf because this time she was where I could see her. She lives up to her name.
I see hydraulic turtles.
Wow, how have I missed this thread until now?
I never meant to become a cat person but here I am…
We adopted these two brothers Blaze and Ginger about a year and a half ago and now they are two years old. Former street cats who spent most of their first 8 months in an uncaged adoption center majorly running wild.
They alternate between being really cute and lovey with each other and play fighting/chasing each other all over the house. So much fun and we are so happy the shelter made us take two even though the intent was to only adopt one cat.
These are the first young male cats I’ve lived with, and they have recently started pissing on my backpacks. Ive had to throw out three bags in the last couple months. These are my bags i lug around with me on a daily basis. It started when we went on a trip in February and they peed on out suitcases when we got home. They did the same when we returned from a trip in april. It makes sense that they would be pissed at us when we come home from a trip (even though there were house-sitters both trips) but why do they keep peeing on my bags? It’s specifically my bags too, and not my wife’s or son’s.
Anyone else have this experience?

have you tried pissing on the cat? sometimes a good retaliatory piss is all it take to settle the score…
