Good on Mt. Rose for still offering 2fer Tuesdays for at least the last 25 years. Not much else in the ski industry has stayed the same for the last 1/4 century.

Only since they added that additional 2000’ of vertical to the top back in 2011.

I always ski Plattekill on my birthday (last Sunday) and this year I asked one of our newest writers, Rip, to join me. We'd never met IRL and he's put up some incredibly adventurous content. He's originally an NY'er but has spent time ski bumming at Chamonix and Big Sky.

Anyway he said Plattekill was too far, but he could meet me at Belle. WTF? Platty is like 20 mins past Belle. I didn't get it, but I agreed to start the day at Belle skiing from first chair until noon or whatever.

It turns out Plattekill was "too far" because he was riding his electric bike from his house in the Hudson Valley, 180 miles round trip. It's an epic fucking tale, long but really something.

    Here's his rig:

Conditions were pretty damn good at Belle, especially under the guns, when you consider the recent weather, and how far south they are...

Holy fuck. That dude is mental.

It’s a shame buried here in the soup thread.

Maybe cross post to trip reports. Wow. Amazing.

    I chuckled at this one:

You don’t need coffee when you're doing 50 in the dark on a bike with a fully loaded trailer.

^^ wow earned indeed! it would have been an impressive enough effort if there'd been a dinner/hot tub/room/car ride home after the gruelling ride to the mountain.
happy birthday harvey and all-time props to mr ripitz!

It was my first time meeting him, and he is quite a character. He has been riding his bike for 7 years, no car in that time. He commutes 20 miles to work every day, regardless of the weather.

He posted a cool piece on our front page about bagging (bushwhacking) two small peaks on opposite sides of the Hudson using a paddle board to get across the river. At the end he was paddling down the river to his (friend's) car, by the light of the moon. Unreal.

He took this pic while paddling:

Stories on the lift at Belle dropped my jaw. He said, "Hey man I'm 50. I got to get this shit done, it's not like I got 20 years."

I used to coach at Rose before the chutes were fair game. We used to rochambeau to see who poached and who drove the getaway car on the last run of the day. I once kicked one off in the chutes that ran and partially covered the road. I about shit my pants. Luckily, the getaway car was parked on the right side and we booked it back down to Reno asap. Have fun, stay safe!

Anything going to come out of this possible snowstorm next few days?? Debating last min trip to Killington, not great lodging options and hard tell if it’s worth the crowds for the limited terrain…. Story of the season this year I know

Yes, definitely. It was pretty well off the radar when I was there for a couple of season 20+ years ago. Opening the chutes in ‘04-05? added a lot of needed terrain.
