Playing lot of (indoor) hockey this year. Pond hockey has been impossible or at least unsafe and back yard rinks have been shit so far with the extended warmth.

Weekend looking grim for sliding on snow, biking maybe?
Those departures from normal temps are absured. It is like we moved to New Jersey.

    ^new jersey moved north.

but growing up north jersey was reliably cold and snowy all winter long.

Hi guys! It’s so fucking deep at Mt rose. Thinking of you all. This is some of the most unreal skiing of my life. Fucking white room every. Single. Run.

    ice age

(for the literalists here: reliably cold and snowy for a kid to experience a normal winter at sea level. long stretches of snow cover. snow on ground long enough to result in dirty ice when spring arrived - in spring - and not every 2-3 weeks. sledding / snowball fights routine. but no we didn't get 400" inches of snow, my bad, bro.)

I don't usually cross post from our forum but this is amazing and insane.

I always ski Plattekill on my birthday (last Sunday) and this year I asked one of our newest writers, Rip, to join me. We'd never met IRL and he's put up some incredibly adventurous content. He's originally an NY'er but has spent time ski bumming at Chamonix and Big Sky.

Anyway he said Plattekill was too far, but he could meet me at Belle. WTF? Platty is like 20 mins past Belle. I didn't get it, but I agreed to start the day at Belle skiing from first chair until noon or whatever.

It turns out Plattekill was "too far" because he was riding his electric bike from his house in the Hudson Valley, 180 miles round trip. It's an epic fucking tale, long but really something.

    Here's his rig:

Conditions were pretty damn good at Belle, especially under the guns, when you consider the recent weather, and how far south they are...

The light was nice this am, but little consolation for the fact that there is 15” at the stake.
