Quality over quantity. I miss Platty - great mountain and out-of-control good when those lake snows crank.

Left Portland, Maine on a 9am flight to Chicago, Chicago to Tokyo, then Tokyo to Sapporo. Arrived Sapporo 11pm local.

It does cancel out the jet lag… you’re awake for 26 hours straight but arrive at bedtime and can go right to sleep. Woke at 7am and feeling fine. On the bus to the mountains now. It’s Noon here… not sure if yesterday or tomorrow.

Surreal photos from Platte, fogged in gun skiing and brown grass everywhere else.

Excerpt from todays snow report, note "seeing flurries"

8:01AM: Good morning skiers and riders! Some interesting weather is headed our way in the next 24 hours, and we are already seeing flurries up on the summit this morning. Ice, rain, and snow are all forecasted for today until this afternoon when temps drop. There is the potential for up to 6 inches of fresh snow by Friday morning so make sure you keep an eye on the Snow Stake and your fingers crossed!

Not sure what summit it's flurrying on but it isn't this one

Avoiding the holiday scratch fest the Cat and I did our usual conditions check for touring possibilities.

2" of frozen crusty snow at 1800' grew to about 5" at 3100'. At 3000' a sweet 1/4" rain glaze appeared producing a slick and fairly supportive bed surface. Enough texture to provide a grippy texture for continued touring.

The traverse up was ok with depth of snow increasing to a whopping 6" at 3400'. Conditions for heading the other direction were grim, couple logs across the trail and tall obstacles coupled with the ice crust would make for questionable skiing.

Opted for a run down the scraped off trail home, many looked to have skied Out to Lunch, but I decided to walk
Hopefully we get less freezing rain and more bonding snow with our next scraps of snow

FIS gave the green light to Killington for hosting another world cup in Nov 2023.

After the magic trick this Fall, K earned it.

Props to the few who still seem to be keeping my hopes up that skiing still exists and appears to be fun on the Ice coast this year.
Has been a challenge losing an employee late in december then having covid run thru the shop - hoping to get out ASAP once I get caught up.
Good thing Everyone out West seems to be enjoying and average year.... - watching in disbelief but I know the East is gonna get its due soon.....

Southern VT mountains may be in the bullseye for this week's storm. 8-12" forecast from Mt. Snow to Killington. It looks like northern mountains will be lucky with 4-6". Beats current conditions!

I blame overly cushioned chairs such that little kids can't tell where the front edge is and slip through.

Either that or the heat makes them have to pee and they jump before wetting themselves.
