My wife took her Pivot Mach 4 (probably circa 2010) into a shop, they said her brakes were too squishy and old for them to be able to do anything, and new brakes would be $600.
That seems utterly insane to me. I'm wondering if they saw high end brakes (maybe XT?) on her bike and priced out new XT brakes? Surely there are more affordable options to keep a 12 year old bike on the trail, right?
EDIT: I'm not specifically asking for what brakes she should get, just trying to figure out if the shop is completely off base (ie go to another shop) or if getting replacement brakes for a 12 yo bike, albeit one that was high end back then, really should cost anywhere near $600.
