think of it as a pyramid of graft going all the way up. Putin steals tens of billions, the oligarchs steal billions , the generals millions, the officers thousands, the conscripts time. Everyone robbing the future for today

I was watching a Bill Maher re-run last night and he reminded me of how the West fucked up our opportunity at having a solid relationship with Russia when communism finally collapsed. If there are major changes in Russia down the road (Putin's dead) I sure hope the West will this time open up a dialogue and aid to/with Russia to help it get away from its isolationist past, open up and join the rest of the free world.
The example Bill made was how shitty Germany was treated after WWI which gave us Hitler to how we treated Germany & Japan after WWII which gave us great democratic partners.
Once this is done with, I hope we can bring Russia into the fold of free and democratic countries.
Never in U.S. history has the public chosen leadership this malevolent. The moral clarity of their decision is crystalline, particularly knowing how Trump will regard his slim margin as a “mandate” to do his worst. We’ve learned something about America that we didn’t know, or perhaps didn’t believe, and it’ll forever color our individual judgments of who and what we are.

It’s a simple matter of public record, and has nothing to do with liberal politics. If I’m in one of those conversations, I’ll ask if they are in the mood to have a discussion based on established facts that have received bipartisan review. If they hesitate to say Yes, then I’ll change the subject.

    I’ve had mixed success

Really good On The Media on NPR discussing Ukraine. Discussed Open source intelligence via public satellite and social media, white nationalist connections, what Putin means when we says he is going to deNazify Ukraine, etc.

    Worth a listen.

Apparently the premise is he's mad he can't get a boner since he's getting older so has to take over a country to get hard. Or something like that.

It so often is, but it can be just beautifully simple, perhaps in more ideological terms.

The enemy of authoritarianism is the friend of freedom. I guess thats pretty philosophical and mastubatory rather than tactical and practical, but I think it only gets really murky when its like, any enemy of any threat to me is worth supplying with weapons.

Ahh of course it does. It will be relaxing at least to see these real world problems reduced down to cartoon yucks with an icing of satire.

So in regards to actual strategic goals Putin might accomplish, cutting Ukraine off from the sea seems likely. It seems obvious to me now, but you gotta get your head into the mindset of putin that just hurting ukraine is the objective, even if russia doesn't gain from a few more miles of coastline and already have ports, I do think there is natural gas in the southwest of the country though, so perhaps some of the areas he could take.

VISA and Mastercard out. Cards won't work there and any card issued there won't work anywhere else in the world. Guess it's Amex or nothing.

After getting stuck with 10 other cars behind a bro dozer going 45-50 today and flooring it whenever you could pass, I’m ready for $8 gas to get those shitheads off the road. If it helps fuck Putin, even better.
