There was...the main thing is that KXL would've provided a mechanism to more easily export oil. The primary purpose of it wasn't to provide oil for US domestic use. As others have pointed out, there are ways to increase domestic production in the short term. FL is being obtuse.
Damn shame, throwing away a perfectly good white boy like that

Thanks, but I already read about that in the KXL thread

It’s not a binary argument either. If more oil gets exported because KXL then more oil is available for domestic consumption.

Well, the F 35 traffic buzzing my office tower today is way up from normal. Perhaps this thread will kick up another gear soon.

I’m sure it’s coming, and we can’t just turn off the oil and gas overnight, but can we at least all agree we need to stop buying Russian Oil?

If China buys Russian oil at a discount to the market who does that help or hurt?

    Ukraine

Russian petroleum products are 3% of our total imports. That shouldn’t hurt too much.

What if nobody is buying Russian Urals oil? Currently couldn’t find bidders at $-22.70 a barrel below Brent. Yes, that’s a negative.

Distribution logistics will take time to resolve but they will. Russia % of global production will surely decrease but how far is open

Russian petroleum production is 8% of the world’s supply. There’s not that much to decrease, it will hurt them more than everyone else.

Most of the messages are not aimed at him, but his inner circle. Get rid of him, blame it all on him, then plead for Russia and good things will happen. If Putin was exiled/removed with an immediate deal to pull out of Ukraine and Crimea in exchange for dropping of all sanctions, it's an instant win for everyone not named Putin.

I love it when TGR Conservatives demand Big Government step in.

How about Oil & Gas companies step up and announce they will not buy from Russia ? Plenty of other companies have made that pledge.

Pretty sure that if a bank can use AI to detect money laundering, and an insurance company can use AI to detect and quantify risk...the NSA CIA FBI can use AI to detect and track a gangster kleptocracy's foreign imperial credits...Poot and his merry band of kid killers probably half-assed the act of stashing their loot anyway. Same as they do with vehicle maintenance.

It seems obvious now that the 40 mile convoy was a cluster fuck from the get go. Probably not considered a big enough threat to act on by an army on the defense.

In other news the sea war is heating up.

They've announced it via the market...

On Wednesday, Russian oil producer Surgutneftegas PJSC failed to award tenders -- for an unprecedented third time -- to sell about 6 1/2 million barrels of Urals crude. Since the war began, offers to sell the grade at record discounts on a pricing window run by S&P Global Platts have elicited no bids. It increasingly amounts to an embargo in all but name.
“Russian energy flows, in theory, are not sanctioned but everyone is hedging their bets for now,” said Anoop Singh, head of tanker research at Braemar ACM Shipbroking Pte.

Agreed, the point was more it’s more short term pain. Oleg deripaska (oligarch, Putin crony) is quoted today saying sanctions will cause a crisis; if reports that Aeroflot is just gonna keep its leased planes are correct the crisis is already here
