Great briefing on the military situation

Overall predictions on a scenario from a month ago, but very on point

So imperial conquest is just a Pootin side hustle, and the rest of the oligarkhiya have nothing to gain or lose in Lord Pootin's quest for world domination?

It is not about paying troops, even if there is deployment pay.

20B might be high, but not that high.

The high price is for the insane amount of ordinance and consumables used to keep the entire fleet in motion, run heavy armor, artillery, rockets, missiles, and their air forces.

    Just some small examples:
*They've been losing a billion a day in aircraft and helos. They lost 2 IL-76s with 300-400 paratroopers today. That ain't cheap.
*They shot off over $2B in Iskandar SRBMs alone on day one.
*If you believe the numbers out there, they've lost over a billion dollars of armor and IFVs.
    *lots of $cruise missiles$

    War is expensive as fuck
Yeah, I’ve thought about it. It’s not cheap. the numbers I saw were a years worth of us equipment losses in Iraq in a day. IL-76 are fifty year old designs; the tanks are often similarly aged. They used up their stock of good missiles. Russia hasn’t been able to afford good shit for 30 years. It’s definitely expensive *for putin* but that doesn’t translate into $20 billion. And it definitely doesn’t translate into a $20 billion run rate. Ffs they’ve units running out of fuel. It’s gonna get uglier because he went cheap.

I think the loss that’ll matter to Putin politically is the 300-400 dead paratroopers, the captured soldiers, and the many other dead. He thought he could win it before Russians found out.

Initial budget for the Iraq war was like $50-100 billion. Our weapons cost more because they are better, our troops get paid more and are better

There’s a flotilla of superyachts from putins “benevolence” he’s made others very very rich- by letting them keep their I’ll gotten gains. How much wealth Putin has is an unknown, really, because he’s spent lavishly on western lawyers to hide the trail

Boris Profane said there was no threat to Ukraine from Putin. That this was all manufactured “bullshit” and war drum beating by Biden and the NYT/WAPO media empire. That the US intelligence on the situation was not to be trusted. And that “most of America could give a fuck about Ukraine” and that it’s Biden’s fault and none of this warmongering would be happening if Trump had won.

Has Boris been right about something before? Likely. Was he even remotely close when it comes to this situation? Nope.

Marco Rubio, vice chair of senate intelligence committee, is appealing directly to Russia military commanders not to follow Putin's orders to commit war crimes of an unspecified nature.

Rep. Gonzalez (R) of Texas called for the establishment of a NATO no-fly zone over Western Ukraine.

I also didn’t think Putin would be stupid enough to go for Ukraine like this

I think lots of other things also but don’t really know

I’m rooting for Ukraine but it’s obvious someone is raking it in as the high tech weapons pour into the country

Marcos a member of the gang of eight (leaders of both party’s in both houses, leaders of both parties of both houses intelligence committees) who receive high level intelligence briefings regularly. He’s been saying stuff regularly that seems to be from his briefings

    Ukraine

^^ Ukraine had high tech weapon production back in soviet times. Some talent and capabilities may have remained. And yeah, the imported tech is good obviously

^ look up “escalate to deescalate”. RU nuclear posture to use small nukes. Assholes are capable of the war crimes.

During his inaugural address in 2019, Zelensky told lawmakers: “I do not want my picture in your offices: the President is not an icon, an idol or a portrait. Hang your kids' photos instead, and look at them each time you are making a decision.”

Yeah, that's what was finally too much for me with Benny. He's been demonstrably wrong so many times, and he just can't deal with the fact that the world doesn't match his expectations. And he does the same thing all these clowns do when called on it--just moves on to some other tangent and is impossible to nail down. Pretty relieved he has me on ignore, but it's too bad because he's a good guy, I think, and didn't used to be so delusional (or maybe it's the internet's fault--way back when maybe he just wasn't exposing himself to the trash sources that help him confirm his biases).

I've said it before and will say it again. Pooty won't allow this to go to conventional warfare with EU or US. Between our intelligence, tech and overwhelming military superiority, it would be a bloodbath. We have the advantage, for better or worse, of a currently battle-hardened military whose logistics, communications and tactics are in peak form. To Summit's earlier point, the superiority in the air is laughable--a 40 year gap in many cases.

Unfortunately this means he would skip straight to uglier measures. Let's hope somebody chokes him out beforehand because he is in a corner and his options seem to be eroding by the hour. If he backs down now, his chances of remaining in power are far from secure.

Anyhow, history tells us that asymmetrical conflict is a bitch. If you're not prepared to go full Grosiny or Baghdad "shock and awe", you're going to get mired down on their home field. See just about every example in history. I'd say the Russian military was far less prepared than the world thought.
