    Holy shit.
Suspected glacier movement cleaned out one of my favourite runs.
The full snowpack went a few meters deep and a few hundred m wide. 3km down the mountain. Woah!

Thanks to our current drought nobody Was caught because there is no pow left.Click image for larger version.

Our snow line looks a little lower but here too. WET followed by WARM 🙄 The Alps can really drive ya mad. Looks like it’s a week or two of race skis on manmade. At least the local FIS downhill run will get my legs in shape for when the snow gets here (if)

I am not gonna join you on the avi and weather talk : )

The rausis flick is fantastic. Good skiing and never thought i will say something like that: the drone pilot is very good too.

Yeah. I'll go bouldering and enjoy the 25 degrees at the Mediterranean coast.

Climate change. It is what it is. Quite ironically though: the cold air is not very far away like other winters. It just doesn't get to us....Scandinavia actually has a pretty good winter.

There is hope for some wetter and more normal weather from the 2nd on, but nothing major cold and dump wise.
The upcoming temps are up to 15 degrees too warm.

Boilerplate to 2500 meters! I’ll tell ya though, when the sun hit the east faces it was great corn ( even though corn is out of season)

    hey subtle,
the last years i have observed, if the US eastcoast gets hammered, a week later we get the same storm on the other side of the atlantic.

is this always happening or only sometimes???

is this like a "retour the east" in gigantic

edit: and are we getting this weather this time?
2nd edit: i know this would actually be a question for klar

It seems we picked up a decent amount over here in the northwest yesterday. Snow line looks around 800m. More precip forecasted for the weekend.

Winter seems to be back. Good thing too, because I didn't score any of that corn, only water injected pistes since the rain came through.

    Les 3 Valles

Flying solo into Meribel for the next three days. I would love to link up with another skier or group if anyone is around.

    Thanks,

Seems like Europe needs a powder buoy. https://powderbuoy.com/

Everybody's gotta have parkas. I'm talking custom parkas. Two words: "client development." They see all of you out there cutting the powder in your matching Schweikart & Cokely parkas, you'll make an impression. You will thank me later.

the digital version of the bouy
you can swap between the heights but 700hpa and 500hpa are significant for the weather.
    but i have no clue : )

it is nice to track the lows below Greenland and see the polar vortex split up etc.

but subtle makes the snow here and i would never ever make a statement concerning his business.... except harassing him... even tho i have never met him : )

Well. No. It's actually quite the Opposite. If a massive cold air outflow triggers a massive New foundland low we usually get on the southern flank of the low and get a sw Western warm and dry or moist flow because a high forms over Europe.

In a really high index polar Vortex AND a cold European artic the low may go to Russia and we get some cold backsides. Usually the last few years the lows take a more Northern course towards Northern scandi and the arctic and we stay in the no weather zone. Maybe this is because of global warming and a smaller and warmer polar Vortex. But that is just my Kitchen science guess.

And there will be more snow sun/Monday but more in Western ch and france

Edit: while I appreciate that klar's actual degree in meteorology is valued higher than my own meticulous internet research, I still feel sad and neglected about it. *sadsmileyface*

Cases are up, hospitalizations are down, and they're going to extend the current lockdown until the end of Jan. most likely. Glad I got to do some skiing in UT over the holidays. And hopefully I'll sneak down to CH the last week of January.
