Thursday or Friday for maximum a/b testing. Saturday is more about the raffle and hanging out.

Is the mount point different on the old C&D's vs the new? I just ordered a pair of the new 184s C&Ds (probably should've waited for the 189s... but my 184 BGs suit me fine).

Reason I ask- I own Wren 98s and BGs and this year added K108s to the mix. K108s are definitely my jam. So much so that I'm considering selling the wrens and maybe the BGs (not yet...relax gear swap) to switch entirely to the Kartel platform. Does this make sense? Or should the BG keep its place in the quiver vs the K116? Am I going to wish I was on last year's C&D if I prefer the Kartel platform better? Or have I read too much of this thread and am going crazy?

While that makes sense, it's also nice to have the mount point a little further back in pow. Unless you're trying to land switch or throw lots of spins/flips, in which case the K116 would definitely be better, I bet you'd be really happy on the BG and/or C&D. The RES is magical, as I'm sure you know from your BG experience. Your W96 should probably be replaced with a skinny Kartel or Magnus if you're digging the forward mount of the Kartel line.

But I could also see owning the whole Kartel line and also a 189 C&D for super deep days.

C&Ds and Kartels are pretty different, regardless of what model you compare. If your wanting a more centered stance then k116s could be a more logical next step than C&Ds - or not. For full on pow slaying C&Ds are probably your best bet.

Also, I would just ask ON3P if the new black 189cm C&Ds are ready and if you can have one of those instead of the ordered 184s if you are wanting to size up for pow.

Also #2, wrt selling off everything to go full on Kartel - remember that there is a tweener ski coming between wrens and kartels re the images earlier in this thread. As such, if you are happy with both of them, but want something mixing the characteristics of the two - then the tweener might be the best of both worlds. Pure speculation at this point as Iggy has yet to release specifics such as mount points, widths or sidecut. But with their pros riding protos and being sanctioned to show them off, one would think that it is not years, but months until the model/models are released. Time will tell, but I know I am exited about what is to come (and also very, very excited about the current lineup!).

So yeah, you might be going a bit crazy (aka hold on to your quiver a bit longer - it is still a killer quiver - as your k108s and C&Ds will probably have you entertained for a good while yet)

on a side note - I seem to remember there being some speculation about a metalgade getting wren11 rockers or some such (?). That begs the question though - why would Scott change a fantastic design that everybody seem to love other than restocking the ingredients internally a bit to optimize the ski for metal? Did I misunderstand or what?

That's where the speculation was going for the Metalwrens in the charging ski thread.

ah, so that is where I read it. I do not get where that logic comes from. I seem to remember Scott saying that they are very happy with the wrens current shape, so why would the inclusing of metal also mean a change in rocker? As far as I know the only changes that are coming is changing in core thickness to offset the metal to keep the ski balanced, but who knows right.

Metal usually means stiffer which means the tips will not plane in 3D snow as well, so adding a bit more rocker / taper can help offset that. My 2 cents.

yeah, but the wren11 as debated in the charger thread had less not more rocker no? Also, I haven't read Scotts replies like stiffer is what they have been going for - his replies wrt milling the core differently to offset the metal seems to indicate that they are dialing the ski for similar ride characteristics, but even damper and torsionally stiffer.

Also, they are pretty heavily rockered already, so at some point one would think there being some diminishing returns on that no? It is no good having a stiff charger if its contact lenght is like 100cm is it?

Not to be negative or critical - I am just trying to do some sense making here And I love the current version so I am obviously biased toward it not changing too much I do not want to replace that ski already

    ON3P SKIS Discussion

The metal Wren I have been testing since last year is not stiffer than the stock version when you hand flex it, but has different characteristics than the regular one as far as on snow feel is concerned.

I can’t say anything more at this time but the rocker and shape and dimensions are exactly the same as stock with a different core profile and metal. Only can speak for this pair.

Metal does not have to be stiffer. Metal and carbon fiber dampen at different frequencies depending on vibration and speed…

There is a case to own a pair of stock AND a pair of metal based on how they ski IMHO.
You should have been here yesterday!

My interpretation of his posts was that he will unofficially offer ON3P demos for day skiing Friday Feb 15 (and possibly night skiing Thursday Feb 14? not sure), but it seems like he has to leave after Friday. He said all of his skis this year have Tyrolia Attack 2 (GripWalk/DIN/WTR/ISO9523) demo bindings. ...but no telemark.

I will have an ON3P demo fleet in tote for anybody interested in getting out on some stuff. Not doing anything official per say, but everything I have will be available to BBI participants.
    * Also, I will start a thread for people to request to borrow my skis at 19BBI@Alpental, but most of mine require BSL near 314mm.

    This [emoji106].

Depending on what the future looks like regarding tweener model, this might be the way to go.

Set my old man up with a pair of 179 Wren 98s from last year. They didn't click with him and he's already on some Blizzards for the season. Going to be posting them up in gear swap here soon. Mounted with pivot 14s on the line for a 306BSL.
    Two more skip the last.

Rode upper Blackcomb today. Was knee deep in places and the snow up there was light and airy. So much so, even the CD’s couldn’t stay afloat all the time. Felt SO nice to pillow hop and cut turns through the chop as though it was fresh. The fresh stuff in the trees was amazing. Sent a couple mandatory cliff drops and the CD’s just STOMPED the landings.
