Pain in the ass is an understatement. Monte Rosa was on my shortlist, but good lord it’s hard to get to from Andermatt.

4 hours by car: doable in the evening.

Set me straight here... I understand that the Designated Wildlife Areas are off limits to public access during their respective closure periods. The Swiss gov't maps show the Cuolm da Vi area closed between 21 December and 30 April.

The green line is the approved trail through the middle, right? (Cungieri hiking trail)... Looks like the new tram goes up the same ridge, bisecting the Wildlife Area.

How wide is this open corridor? Is it the only way to glide back to Sedrun if skiing the Disentis lifts?

Do folks ski the couloirs on the west flank of Pix da Strem? Looks like there are several spots to pop over from Disentis, including the big obvious cols on either side of Pix Gendudas. Looks cool to ski out the Val Strem, right to Vendul's.

Don't know what the plan is, I'd assume there's some sort of piste, but paying attention to the wildschutze is a good idea,

    Oh yeah, from Pic Gendusas:

The guy videoing is standing less than halfway down to the valley floor. Once in the valley, it's a flat shuss out to Sedrun. Don't know if we could traverse over to Rueras.

To get to the entrance is about a 40 minute skin (I think I can find it again) and the total vert is around 6k feet.

Here's the lower section after we skied from the above vantage point down a ways:

Bosco gurin is also far from anywhere. Not as far as Alagna, but that's probably as remote as you can go in the alps.

Is the new tram that Vendul shows in the photo the one on the trail map that says "Betrieb ab Sommer 2019"? did they get it open several months earlier than forecast?

Yes, That is the Tram... they are running al the safety inspections and tests, that should take 7 weeks, after that it should be good to go... probably february.
Half way down the mountain there's a 100mt long narrow ( 10mt) corridor.

I had read that there was some squabbling over lift revenue and cost distributions between Disentis and other areas that has been resolved. Maybe that resulted in construction delay?

    Here's a video of Disentis grooming: https://www.instagram.com/p/BrYAJPuo3mo/

    Ok, thanks.

I guess currently (setting aside grandiose dreams of high pressure alpine hudgeness) I am looking to learn a little more about the lower valley skiing. If it's storming I want to get some fun pow laps and check out the trees.

The new tram looks perhaps mediocre for storm lapping, but still a 700m lap ... the lower meadows with the switchback path look kinda fun, maybe some steep shots west into the draw... map shows the south facing trees on the town side as no-go. Vendul, what's your assessment?

    What else?

North facing trees off Bostg, down to Disentis base... ?
2-ride lap in Disentis... Caischavedra tram, then the first lift to Gendusas, traverse ENE over to the treed ridge dropping down to Pardi, out the bottom of Acletta creek to the base, repeat... ?

Disentis trail map shows a closed area just looker's right of the Gendusas chair... does that hose the traverse to those trees? Go up another lift and approach from the top?

I'm aware of the existence of farmer's lifts but those probably don't belong here even if already documented... someone please show me by way of ski. Very intriguing.

Other areas within a day's train commute from Vendul's hotel? Not many trees in these parts...

I've skied the trees viewers right of the base tram/ Caischavedra by skiing down from Val Gronda/Val Pintga.

I've been sworn to online secrecy on the famers lift we skied around there. You can not get there by train and bus in a day and expect to ski the same day

By days train commute, do you mean there and back in the same day or train there after skiing and getting a room?

There and back in same day: Airolo, Flims/Laax (a stretch with a bus transfer), Obersaxen. (edit) Just checked: Klosters/Davos is possible with a 3 hour ride that begins @ 6:10 am, return leaving Klosters as late as 5:45.
Airolo has great tree skiing, super steep, reminiscent of AlpyBC and I know how to get in and out of it.

There's a garage in Sedrun that rents an awd van for 100 chf/day if we want to range more weirdly.

I'm really all about taking vendul up on the offer of a day trip to St. Moritz.

The fact that the Euros stick to the pistes is an unending source of amusement for me in more ways than 1.

Keep your information, let us respect the purity of the place.

Re. train... was thinking of the out and back case, but will be packed light enough to be spontaneous if drawn further out by snowy bait. Paid at Venduls, so lean to just staying there 4 nights till bailing on the 22nd as per planA.

There doesn't appear to be a lack of country to explore from Rueras.

    You people are killing me!

I guess it is a good problem to have when you can't go on this trip of a life time 'cause your going on another trip of a life time!

Shit, I just looked at this thread (have only read about 3 posts) and realized I will be over there then.

Buster (or anyone)--wanna come over to La Grave starting around 3/22 or 23 to shralp some gnar en francais? Not sure I can realistically get to where you guys are going to be (again, I haven't read much of this but will tomorrow).

Don't think I can escape from Paris based commitments that will hold me hostage en ville while you nuts are skiing.

Buster, gotta figure this out! Haven't skied with you since those glorious days at Crystal on your birthday! Can't let this one slip away...

If I am reading this correctly, it includes all of the stations. The price changes a bit depending on which day you start.

I'd love to but my flight leaves March 23rd from Zurich after a 2 week+ slash though Austria and Switzerland with the last 6 days at venduls place in Rueras. C'mon over on the 17th or 18th, all those pretty pictures and restaurants in Paris will still be there. Plans are being sketched for LG next year.
