    Dicpics for everyone!

I guess I get less riled up by Joe Average pseudobanker conmen like Mr Tucker stealing from poor muricans via payday lending fraud... than I do over WU aiding and abetting human rights violations, even if they're small beans by dollar amount.

    Whatever. Everyone sucks.

I'm having a hard time finding maps of average snowfall distribution in the Alps.

And what effect does a mild to moderate El Niño have there?

    https://www.currentresults.com/Weath...nd-weather.php

Also has links to greater Yurp weather.

I've read (at wepowder) that there is little correlation between El Nino and Yrup snowfall.

These guys are made fun of, but are reliable for 2-3 day forecasts: https://wepowder.com/en

    For Oct 24th:

Also, our own maggot imbued euroski website powderguide, in German only, who tend to be a bit more restrained:

    This one too:

Look for snow days. March averages a lot, about 1.2 meters of snow during the average March over the last 10 years.

Of the little bit I know about snow in Yurp I think the key is the North/South division along the main Alpine ridge from the Ecrins in the West to Hochschwab in the East.
Depending on where the storms come from, North or South, results in where the snow falls.

Andermatt and Disentis are just on this ridge, so they get spillover from storms from both directions. Plus. it's easier to get to the side that got the most recent snow.

Don't worry about it, you are going. There will be something mind blowing to do everyday regardless of what the conditions are.

    Where for 2020?
La Grave. I'd rather base there and drive to Via Lattea if necessary. Because really, I could keep myself busy for the rest of my life between Le Telpherique and the Col du Latteret.

I'm not concerned in the least... don't get me wrong.

Just looking to learn about the area. I understand the basics of weather in the western States but I don't know shit for Europe.

OK, that was kind of my plan anyway; I'd be up for having a car/van though or at least look into costs to get over to the Milky Way or Serre so I don't get stuck there when there's a classic La Meije blowdown .

Now, when ? January or March?

Check out https://wepowder.com/en/forum/topic/259863 now. Morris is enthusiastic and optimistic and gets a lot of shit for it, but in his excitement he does explain a bunch about weather in the Alps.

As usual, we are on the same page. Car hire is a good way to go. It is not too expensive is shared and maximizes enjoyment. I've always gone between the end of February and the beginning of April as I like the longer warmer days. My buddy Ray who is a IFMGA guide is usually in La Grave around this time. But hey, that's about 18 months away.

This sounds fucking awesome already and you guys haven't even landed yet. Can't wait to see what you get up to. Can't make it myself, but if you stop off in Innsbruck en route from Gastein hit me up and we can grab a beer if i have the time. I was in Sportgastein years ago as a kid and i've always wanted to go back because it seemed to have so much potential. Böckstein in that valley was pretty cool to wander around in. If my addled brain remembers correctly it is/was a "planned" village built for the mine workers in the 19th century? They also have a radon tunnel for "wellness" around there somewhere . Not sure if you glow in the dark after a session in it though.
The Gastein area isn't quite as high as some of the areas further west/south, but it seems to be a snow magnet. I don#t think its as effected by the same foehn weather patterns as tirol, but this is all based on completely unscientific guesswork on my part.

I think I'm just going to roll through IBK to and fro Gasteinertal for March 10-12, stopping at St. Anton for a couple of days. Thanks though.

    I found this: https://www.currentresults.com/Weath...al-average.php

which indicates that Gasteinertal gets more snow than St. Anton. I don't know how well founded this heresy is, but between Gasteinertal. Mallnitz and Moetaller Gletscher (Sonnblick Mountain), it looks like some good, snowy resources.

Yeah, gut feeling says this sounds about right. As the elevation isn't quite as high as other areas, the amount of snow always felt like that tree skiing was great in the area if that makes sense. But thats just subjective observations on my part, if someones in the areas they could chime in and call bullshit.

Gastein is really cool, but for sure doesn’t have the best snow records... sport Gastein is another thing! But still, I’ve stopped judging a ski resort from snow records a looong time ago... you’ll love it! It has a mix of new and old, it feels like living a deja vu... and the skiing is great. The ski areas Sto arrivando! Not connected to each other but there’s plenty to do for a day on each one of them, you won’t get bored
