Anybody know what was up with Search and Rescue around 3:45 today in the lower canyon? Maybe between the A and B gate?

In other news, used a WB bird pass today. That place rips in the sunshine, forgot how much bigger and faster it is than Alta.

Spent the day getting my boys to Love spring bumps and jumps at Solitude. I’d like to say I had something to do with it, but the sunshine and snow did it all. They couldn’t get enough altabird trail once the bumps were softened.

Ended up skiing off Lone Peak yesterday. NE was mix of (not too bad) breakable crust, firm, chalk, and some sun baked fun stuff.

Back to the car in Alpine was great corn though.

According to OpenSnow, we have a chance for a big storm Saturday - Monday especially higher elevations. Let's pray the cold air comes in earlier than expected as right now Saturday is looking like rain.

Thanks man. We came from Alpine. Coverage is poor on the south side. Snow was intermittent between the first and second hamongog. We were able to skin and ski above the second hamongog. Above that heavens halfpipe had snow but it's obvious the snowpack is very low with tons of boulders and rocks showing. NW super Couloir on box elder looked pretty fun and more exciting with lower snow levels.

^^ was looking up at lone peak this weekend with binos, just wondering.... thinking the south approach would be a long walk carrying gear. great stuff and appreciate the beta.

some fun spring skiing this weekend. and beers. the little man attempted his first backflip on his last day of big mt. he ate it but got around and wasn't far off.

hope to see a few of you wed night. pm sent dantheman

I am cautiously optimistic about this quicky tonight. Was snowing big fat grauply cream cheese at Soli base from about 1 pm on, and got cold around 3. Drizzling steadily now in midvale. Anyone going to be at the bird tomorrow and want to make some turns while the wife and kids are in ski school?

4pm Alta was pretty sweet. Storm started later than I was hoping but grappeled pretty well up top then kept coming down. Not wet snow but thick enough to cover crud and crust pretty well. Still coming down good at base of bird now

Snow levels dropped below 7000 feet in Parley's at 3:30 and it's been pretty steady. I'll bet things will be sneaky-nice up high tomorrow.

well I only skied 9-1 today at snowbird got fed up of the worsening ice. stupidly brought out the Billy Goats today over the Kartels.

fingers crossed this snow continues, still undecided Alta or Snowbird tomorrow.

Seems a few here are doing the Bird.

No problem. It was a long approach but worth it. We also used ropes to drop in(we already had ropes and a bunch of stuff as part of our aspirations to hit a bigger link up that didn't happen due to time). Dropping in from the south summit is possible without ropes, buts it's just a sketchy downclimb so we just played it safe and brought the ropes out since we already had them.

At alta today. Disappointed with storm. Low angle pow on northish aspects holding up. Anything steep is scary. Still bluebird and awesome.

Nice work. Man, the coverage up there is pitiful for this time of year.

^^ it was indeed a heinous crust. took a walk into days this morning. didn't see any tracks yet in cardiff at 10:30 when i had to jet. turns were a little better than expected with the 3" of graupel, but the skinning on the other hand. just slip sliding away…

Anyone know how the coverage is on the hike to terrain on Brian Head peak above Brian Head ski area? Never been there and figured it might be worth the afternoon on Sunday 4/8 to help break up the drive to SLC. Is it worth getting a half day lift ticket or would it be better to just parking off hwy 143 near marathon trailhead and skin up to peak (assuming there is snow)?

Funny enough, we drove past it last weekend. Snowpack seemed a bit low on the south facing aspects and I'm not sure it connected to the summit. From the west maybe.

Road 148 is closed of course at the junction 143. Snowpack at several feet there.

I have a voucher for a free Solitude ticket I'll trade for a 4/6 pack of good beer. One catch, if you take it, you HAVE to use it. Otherwise I'm going to give it to someone in the parking lot Monday.....

Went for an afternoon tour up white pine with no real objective. Ended up on red baldy and rode a northwest shot off between the summit and west pass. Snow varied from good firm wind pack to a hard but edgeable crust. Click image for larger version.

Yeaaah, GFS is showing ~2" of water on Saturday with snow levels to 10k. The 3-4" of snow predicted for Saturday night should totally redeem things, though [/rollseyes]

Can we just shoot the hostage and end this bullshit season already?
