Rockhold just has to keep that chin down and not get sloppy.
I dont understand how guys (and girls) - especially at the highest levels like Romero (fighting for the Belt!) - can not make weight.
On top of losing your title shot - and probably hundreds of thousands of dollars - Dana White takes it personally. Guys have access to all the top level nutritionists, sports scientists, trainers, etc at the UFC Institute.. how can you not make weight?? Its not like the fight got changed at the last minute or something??
^agreed on Romero...Dana White had some bullshit excuse about how Yoel took this fight on short notice blah blah blah, but when Uriah Hall almost died 2 weeks ago trying to make weight White ripped Hall a new asshole in public.
Not only does he forfeit a chance to win the belt but has give up 20% of his purse...at least the fight is still on.

Never saw a decision coming for Blaydes/Hunt.
Super glad about my incorrect prediction. Glass chin comes through again! Apparently on a broken leg....legit badass!

It makes perfect sense...until you think about it.
I suspect there's logic behind the madness, but I'm too dumb to see it.
holy fuck, great night of combat....fucking Australians bringing it hard, can't believe how much Blaydes has improved and Yoel sleeping Rockhold with a broken leg is incredible. Weird exchange after the fight between Rockhold & Romero, looked like Yoel was gonna kiss him lol
Not looking forward to seeing Cowboy Cerrone get destroyed by Yancy Mederios next week though

I just spent the last few days training with an MMA fighter out of California. Blake Troop came to to dojo I train at to train with us and put on a couple seminars. My sensei was his sensei back when he first got into martial arts and the two have been close since. I'm pretty decent in the styles I train, but damn training with pro MMA fighter was fun.
^^Grange, what type type of martial art do you train?
I trained Koei-Kan Karate..San Kyu (brown belt 2 stripes)
Boxing & just started Jui Jitsu

Have you ever had to make weight? Within a training camp that's already taxing you physically and mentally to exhaustion? That last week can be brutal, plus you may be experimenting with new approaches (you're always experimenting, trying to find an edge), and an experiment goes wrong and you suddenly retain a little more water than you anticipated and you're fucked. Or you make a strategic decision to not make weight, belt & money on the line, because reasons ... Sure paid off for Romero.
^agreed but he is a professional fighter fighting on a PPV card in the UFC, no excuses

I currently train Wu Ying Tao, Modern Arnis, and Arnis Jitsu. I am hoping to promote next month in all three styles which would make me green belt 1st degree in Wu Ying Tao, brown belt 3rd degree (first level in brown belt) and 1st degree purple belt in Arnis Jitsu. Previously in college I trained Shotokan Karate for 3 years. I personally prefer Wu Ying Tao over Shotokan because it is a softer style and uses my opponents movements more than Shotokan, which is a hard style. Currently my favorite is Modern Arnis, which is a Filipino martial arts with weapons. There is something about using weapons when sparring that is a lot of fun.
I will say this when I first started the jui jitsu training I was not that interested. I only started because it was available and training came right after Modern Arnis. However now I am having a lot of fun. From the lock flows to the takedowns to the grappling there are a lot of ways to incapacitate an opponent. Plus I'm a decent grappler for my level. I say my level because this weekend I trained with some high level BJJ practitioners at the seminar and learned that I still have a ways to go. I'm OK with my defense, but still working to improve my set ups and flow and chokes scare the hell out of me.
Damn, you're lucky. I have been jonesing to take kali/escrima/arnis for YEARS now but there is nowhere even remotely near me that does it.
I've trained muay Thai since 1999. I've dabbled in BJJ here and there but not really a big fan of rolling.. Kind of bored with Thai Boxing at this point (only train a couple times a month now, and only one-on-one) and I really want to learn those Filipino martial arts. so jealous![]()
It is a lot of fun. I'm currently working on take downs and stick sparring.
It's a blended system of submission holds, throws, and chokes from Arnis styles and Kodenkan Ju Jitsu. We do have some BJJ folks come in from time to time to share, which is great. In fact last night I was rolling with a fellow student and was able to pull off a move I picked up from a BJJ practitioner.
During Blake Troops seminar we had a couple BJJ guys from an area school come and after the seminar was over I got to watch Blake Troop roll with a Black Belt BJJ. Damn was that cool to watch. I'm a decent grappler, but when I rolled with both of them I was really no match. I was able defend well enough, but anytime I tried to go on offense it was not uncommon to find myself quickly going back to defense if not tapping out. They are looking 2 or 3 moves ahead where as I am only looking 1 or 2 moves ahead.
Sounds like fun Grange, you must devote a lot of your time to training...I am envious for sure, you sound like a well rounded martial artist. You ever watch/train with any of John Danaher death squad guys? Listened to him on Rogans podcast last week and dude is interesting to say the least...
Anyway, weigh in tomorrow. Really not looking forward to seeing Cowboy fight Yancy, Cerrone is a beast for taking these fights but I do not think it is going end well for him. Definitely excited to see Vick, Northcutt & Lewis fight though, should be a good Sunday night fight night.
"In a perfect world I'd have all 10 fingers on my left hand, so I could just use my right hand for punching."
I don't get nearly as much time as I'd like. I'm only getting 6-7 hours a week for formal training. I do workout at the gym usually 5-6 days a week and practice on my own at least a couple more hours. I particularly like working stick drills as it is very difficult to work on lock flows or a ground game on my own.
Next weekend I'll be getting together some fellow martial artists from about 5 or 6 other styles to spend a day training. I really like training with other styles and getting to share the styles I train with them. I always learn something.
I am fairly new to watching mma and following jiu jitsu tournaments so my knowledge is very limited. About the only thing I know about John Danaher is that I've read he didn't start training until he was in his late 20's. If that's true then he is damn impressive.
wow was I wrong, Cowboy coming through...Yancy got too friendly, no need to make your competitor comfortable. Diaz did it perfectly to Cowboy when they fought.
Excited for fight night Orlando, main card is stacked...I got OSP, Stevens, Perry & Andrade.

Why You Shouldn’t Try To Punch A Bouncer Who Is Also An MMA Fighter
https://uproxx.com/sports/man-fights...-gets-wrecked/
Bacon tastes good. Pork chops taste goood.
^not sure that bouncer is a MMA fighter...terrible footwork & he kept his left hand down to throw a lucky uppercut, maybe a advanced white belt in BJJ & just a large man.
Great fight night last, once again I got it half wrong lol...
Perry’s girlfriend in his corner yelling nonsense like “break his leg” was fucking embarrassing & Mikes performance shows he needs new management quick like. Stevens should get a title shot & Andrade is a fucking beast & will probably destroy Thug Rose if they fight. Fucking OSP get choked unconscious was crazy, Latifi is a god damn pit bull. Calling out DC after his fight was great!
UFC 222 next week woot!!!!
Cyborg gonna bring the female violence & Jersey Boy Frankie Edgar gonna get it done 😁
Good comments. I concur with most of it. IMO, Perry looked too beefed up and slow and if he continues to take damage like that...can't imagine CTE would doing anything positive for his long game. But wow, he sure is a tough mofo.
I think Thug Rose has a good chance against Jess...study the Joanna/Jess tape.
-Work on and perfect her take down defense.
-Like Joanna did, keep her at range with leg kicks and jabs, anticipate the outs and keep diligently circling out of the way.
-Chop away with lower legs kicks early to compromise Jess's forward movement in latter rounds.
Who knows, Thug could knock her out but more likely would win a patience driven, disciplined technical points game.
And, go Frankie.

Master of mediocrity.
^agreed...leg kicks & stiff jabs are a must for sure.
Fight week!!!
Cyborg will be a massacre for sure, very excited to see Cat Zangano fighting adding especially on the main card. Ortega is a scary human being but hopefully Frankie can figure out a way to win. O’Malley should be an enjoyable & entertaining fight but who the fuck knows what will happen 😁
Struve vs Orlofski should be interesting as well, Orlofski should get it done.
