    Japan skis the 186 goat or 181 122 Jeffrey, I'm 150lbs.

I can see the logic in that. It'll be interesting to ski both widths again.

It's pretty obvious that the choice will come down to whether I would rather be able to rip on hardpack (98's) or bias things so that when it's not deep enough for my 2015/16 Billy Goats (not as good on hardpack as last years' and this years' models), that I bring out the 108's.

I can't see myself going wrong with either choice, and actually standing on them will tell the story of what works best for me.

Just bought my first set. Kartel 108 in 181 length. Im coming from a set of Bonafides. Im 5'11 and 195. I thought about getting the 186s but the guys at ON3p said for what I was doin a 176-186 would be perfect.

181 per our discussion (think it was you on chat) [emoji6]

You could ski the 186 for sure, but based on our talk that 181 will be perfect for your skiing goals.

Based on the snow totals I’m seeing this year...J122.

BG is great, but in snow over your head the wider ski will help you.

Or to make it easier just get a double ski bag and bring both [emoji6]

Then again, 108 doesn't feel terribly wide to me anymore, especially since I don't hang out on groomers and lay trenches.

    Thom,

There will be Wren 108 at the LL Demo next week, and trying to get a couple Wren 98 there but not 100% on those as of yet.

Shipping notice received on my custom (stock flex) Wren 98's. Now I just need it to snow in Utah so I don't have to divert to JH on my first pilgrimage west this winter.

Snowing hard here in flyover land Might get the BG's out tonight for some soft snow laps.

Yep. That was me. Hope I made the right choice. The Wren 108 might have been something to consider as well but maybe not. Grabbed a set of Tyrolia Attack 13 to mount up.

Rode the Steeple 116 184 in bounds last night.

    A few thoughts:

Big upgrade from the 112 in terms of variable snow performance. Way less prone to deflection. Really did well in soft chop. It's not the chop eraser that the 191 is, but really pretty good. I'm confident it would handle out of bounds conditions with ease.

Float is not nearly as good at the 191 BG. You are in the pow, not floating on top. Still fun and predictable, but a bit different.

Nimble AF. Skied tight mogul lines with ease. This was a really nice change from the 191 BG. Those in bumps are WORK.

Asym is a little weird on hard pack. Not that predictable or carvable. Caveat: it was one of the first days it's been skied and nothing has been detuned. It was also my first day in Maestrale RS 2.0. I'm going to get another day with them in my Lupo TI, which I'm more used to. My 189 asym have not been mounted yet, but one of the reasons to upgrade to that from the 191 was the improved firm snow performance. I'm hoping I can get mine dialed once they are mounted. As it was last night, my 191 don't lock in very well on firm snow, but they are a bit more predictable on firm snow if that makes sense.

See how many more days I can coerce my buddy into giving them up. Day 1 was fun. Deep days coming. I'll be on the 191 this weekend.

The steeple 116s floatation performance is interesting.. I found the 189 steeple 112 to float better than my 191 BGs, because of the lighter weight and softer flex. I thought the steeple 116 would be even better.

I am finding I dont like the whole Asym thing, except maybe for specific powder skis, like C&Ds. It’s starting to scare me honestly, especially on the Supergoats I bought, but havent skied yet. I dont have the money for those to “not work” on non-soft snow for me, which is making me ponder..

The asym skis I have tried, Q’s and Marksman, they are not nearly as predictable on edge on firm or choppy conditions. They release well for me, but I cant get them to ski straight when I drive my shins into my boots.. I really feel like these designs work for soft snow only. Having two turn radius’ on each ski, one inside edge TR and one outside edge TR, messes with me when I am trying to charge in anything non-soft.

I hope the SGs weren’t just an expensive experiment for me.

I am so glad I bought last years 189 BGs, without Asym, I think that design just suits me and my style better.

I am on my 184 Asym BG right now and they are destroying groomers haha.

Give them a few rounds/Days and make sure they are on the right feet [emoji6]

I'm on the 189 aysm BG and will write a full review shortly. Bottom line is this is my favorite BG yet. Was on your passed down 191 BG last year and those were a great ski but not awesome on hard or crud. The new 189 asym is a home run.

You have made a name for yourself on this board for being a proponent of big stiff skis. The marksmans are a joke of a ski and your skinny Q’s are obviously too short and not the shape you are looking for in a hard snow daily driver.
The asym is just a minor part of the BG design. Dont overthink it too much, they will be sick.

I don’t think the marksman, or any K2 is a “joke of a ski”, like a lot of hardcore mags think. I like K2 skis, and I can ski fast on them. I have other short skis that I have no other issues with. Please stop assuming I only like big skis, that goes to everybody. I have said it 100 times now. I have a sense of balance, and am not an ape. Short skis I like are 179 k2 shreditor 112, 184 monsters, 184 katanas, 184 shreditor 92, 183/185 line blend. I am also a proponent for big guys rallying on short skis, I am not as core as other people on here.

You think apes don't have a sense of balance? Ever seen them fuckers swing through the trees?

    Apes on skis*

    You know what I mean.

I think some people get along with asym designs, while others don’t. Just like any other design feature.

That being said, the Asym might just make the ski feel shorter than it actually is. That outside edge really throws me off. With the Supergoats being 193 and super stiff, that shorter edge should help it feel more maneuverable, without being unpredictable.

    I'm currently mounting 191 BillyGoats with p18s.

Plot twist: they are for me.

    That crow is mighty tasty.

Also to cash in on the asym debate, on every asym ski I've been on (189 BGs included) I've preferred them on the wrong feet. I don't know why though.

I thought the asym 189s skied like BillyGoats. Great in soft snow, meh on hardpack and groomers. Didn't seem any different than Norseman's 191s. But ymmv.

Help!!! Was about to mount the BG and found a hole conflict with the previous mount. If I go 5mm forward or back it fully eliminates the issue. Thoughts from the goat faithful??

If you’re super worried about it, why not plug with epoxy and hardwood and redrill (could even add inserts)? I did that with my 191s and it worked fine.

My only experience deviating from the line is on a pair of steeple 102s and i didn’t notice much if any difference from the rec line.

4th day on my C&D's, replacement for some 191 BG tours protos from 5-6 years ago.

Way more versatile. Forget these being a pure pow ski - for you bigger folks, this thing can handle the morning pow and the tracked out crap later in the afternoon. Huge fan of the asym everywhere.
