Saw somewhere that a new battery is $5500, so...

I need to sell my 911 Carrera S. Wholesale deal for the maggot dentist, who needs a perfect 991.

I've used this stuff for a bunch of weird shit. Well see how long it lasts. Maybe I'll order the actual part to have on hand.
Didn't work for me. The valve cover gasket job I did on my 05 330i resulted in the inevitable fracture of the ccv vent pipe you experienced. I tried to Mickey Mouse it with every conceivable sort of patch, adhesive, sleeve and clamp imaginable (including, for shame, electrical tape) before I found the rescue tape. It's great stuff but it isn't vapor proof and soon the ses and codes were back soon.

I ended up buying the vent pipe for about $25 from ECS tuning (fuck a bunch of replacing the whole ccv I fix shit when it breaks and not before). The vent tube was a true dirty pig of a job but I got it on after about 2 hours and veritable opera of obscenity.
Damn, we're in a tight spot!

Yeah, got the proper part sitting in the cabinet. Hasn't failed yet though with the rescue tape. Idle is still nice and steady. Bmw and their ccv systems... [emoji107]

    Failure rate on Leaf batteries between 6 & 10 years X $5500 = 1

if 1 < $3000, buy older car. Search forums & long term tests for indications on value of 1
You can do some online research about the battery longevity on the 2011s and 2012s. Nissan issued an extended warranty on those because they had some issues, and cars from those model years may still be covered under warranty or may have gotten a fresh "lizard" battery under warranty recently, in which case they are likely to be great bang for your buck. There is a battery condition meter on the dash that you can double check from an obd2 plug. Nissan also keeps a record of warranty VINs and battery replacement.

You're also gambling about costs for battery replacement a decade from now. It's likely to be cheaper, but how much cheaper is a matter of speculation. I'm guessing it'll be half what it is now, but who knows!

This is why I couldn't make a recommendation; anyone looking at a Leaf has to do their own calculus and roll the dice...

i'm stuck. impreza gets 26 overall which sucks in my opinion. can't afford an upgrade to a prius that may or may not last long enough to break even, considered the leaf but i can't risk the battery replacement. i need my old, paid off civic hx that got 40mpg and never had any problems and was totalled when i got smashed by an unobservant driver. i got shit for it from insurance.

that was the last time i missed a season.

have you calc'd the actual cost savings though? even at 15k miles/year you're looking at a ~200gal or ~$600 /year diff. account for insurance alone and you're probably losing.

i agree. it's supposed to be a commuter car so 26mpg is frustrating but i could have worse problems. i'm just trying to make reasonable strategic downsizes but sitting tight seems to be the best decision at this point. thanks for the variety of feedback.

    Golf tdi went back today.

I found out the '11 Leaf hasn't had a battery upgrade and the battery "bars" were below 9. Plus no cold weather package. I'm not gonna bite on this one.

If the battery condition bars are getting down there, you should research the warranty. If Nissan is gonna give you a new battery for free this year, you're in flavor country. IIRC, 9 bars is close to qualifying.

If you can find a 2013 with the heat pump and quick charger, I think those represent some value.

Buddy has a 2000 4Runner 4WD with only 79K and a new timing belt. Thinks he can get close to $9K. Is it worth that much or is he high?

Cool your jets, we heard ya the first time!

Wouldn't completely surprise me. 4Runners and LCs hold value like few else.

9k ain't too surprising. A little time on the internet could answer that question.

True but this is a subset of the greater market

I think he's high, but the toyota tax is strong.

My brother bought a 2000 a couple years ago with 120k for $6k in SLC. That market seems to be more realistic on pricing than here in the cascades. I wouldn't be surprised to see a $9k asking price in Seattle.

02 Suburban, 128k, 5.3, no rust, original paint, no accidents, pristine interior, barn doors, split second row, paid 4K. Been looking for one of these for quite some time, pretty happy right now. Planning on having this deep into the clock.

It's probably just because I notice them n particular but I see a lot of 1st. gen allroads running around, at least 5 different ones in the past week or so. Mine's in semi-retirement at this point but still running good after 13 years and with almost 150K on the clock. Obviously it wasn't cheap getting it to this point. Still a sharp-looking car though.

Definitely a cult car that 1st gen - but god damn they are not cars to own if you're on a budget, especially if you bought one used that hasn't been sorted out like I'm sure yours has been.
