So maybe I missed it along this thread or on the internet but what are some of the changes for 17/18 lineup? I was looking at picking up a BG but since the rumor mill is strong about them being asymmetrical for 17/18 I was going to wait. Any updates?

new designs are surely dialed, but so are the current shapes.

This years billygoat is so good, every year they get better and better. But its more of a refining process, you'd be happy on any of them, I wouldn't wait and try to get a good deal now.

This. I ride this years BG and love it, no regrets whatsoever. The minor asym changes for next year aren't enough for me to pine for what I don't have. Evo has BG's for a good price right now...

Kopi is spot on... 191 was the first year to get it than the 186 the following year...

Keep in mind that while the 11.12 191 BG has RES, it was updated pretty substantially in 12.13. The 12.13 and onward is the shape everyone raves about, IMHO.

This is true as I owned the first gen 191 and sold to get the next gen... The ski kills it in pow and mank, but according to the new reviews of the 189 the new ski is more versatile...

Update on this year's 189 BG's after another powder day on them at mammoth. Snow was skiing boot top to knee deep on different parts of the mountain. Definite breakable crust on many aspects of the hill, but not too wet of snow. It was kinda weird how heavy the snow skied when you couldn't even form a snowball out of it... not sure i have experienced that before.

ANYWAYS, played with tune 1.5 base/2 side bevels underfoot and 2 base/1 side bevels tip and tail (with detune 3" in from snow contact points both tip and tail). Waxed some more. My initial thoughts were that the insta-slarve and the bases flat glide could be improved some. How'd it go? Here are my takeaways after today....

1.) float was just ok for this type of ski. Not bad at all for this category, but no better than squad 7's, not crazy better than 186 bodacious or 186 renegades (but better), and not nearly a 192 atlas for float (all reference skis for me). Like i said, the snow skied unusually deep and heavy for what it was, and a lot of people struggled terribly where i just had to lean back. it just wasn't other level for float and i stuffed a tip once or twice

2.) insta-slarve wasn't much different after the tune, but i did like the tune a bit better with more base bevel (i usually run 1.5-2 base bevel on freeride skis). I'm realizing RES is just not full rocker when it comes to underfoot pivot. What RES is though, is a very discernably hook free TIP. It's hard to describe other than you just feel you don't have to worry about the FRONT half of your ski as opposed to MAD DRIFT TURNS, YO. I like it, just different from my expectations

3.) Glide is fine now and no complaints there at all

4.) i just like the way this ski construction FEELS in terms of dampening vibrations and pop/rebound energy

5.) these are totally adequate/predictable on hardpack and scraped off steeps, yet decidedly not fun on groomers

6.) these things are ridiculously good at just airing from mogul top to mogul top or just obliterating any type of soft chop at ludicrous speed. So stable and composed it's unreal for how completely manageable these are in tight spots and full on moguls. THIS is their wheelhouse (after being a little disappointed in DEEP untracked), these live for the resort an hour after lift open on a powder day

Still riding the 11-12 191s. Looking forward to upgrading next season, but only because I've finally wrecked the bases and edges. The 11-12 with RES is a fantastic ski.

I know my boots will work, but my lady skis Scarpa Maestrale RS's.

Any comparisons between the Nordica Enforcer 93 and the Wrengade 88 as a "it hasnt snowed in a week" ski that will work as an all around ski for Lake Louise/Sunshine Village?

Same experience here. Never fell in love with my first gen 191. Have a pair of last gen 191 now, and I'll ski them till they die

... Or a ski trip to Europe when it doesn't snow for two weeks, which seems to happen to me every time. I'm contemplating something narrower than my 12/13' Viciks for hardpack, although they have been outstanding on firm snow considering their waist width (104mm).

Couldn't help myself and ordered some 16' Billy Goats to use in the pow we've been getting up north lately. Has anyone mounted their BGs on anything other than the "recommended" line?

You don't mess with perfection.

ON3P is the only company so far that I have never thought about messing with the mount point.

Mounted mine on the line as well, for the BG on the line is perfection. There is plenty of ski ahead of the toe binding, you'll be surprised how much tip pressure you can maintain on them in soft snow.
