is this right thread to ask shoe questions?
my feet and body have been happy wearing very light "barefoot" shoes by vivobarefoot. i basically wear their trail shoes for everything, including running. unfortunately, their uppers always have mesh and the uppers get trashed before anything else in the shoe wears out. i want something lowtop, leather upper, similar fit as the vivobarefoot, 0 (or near 0) rise, rock plate, dirt-oriented sole. i have a difficult foot to fit, ime; narrow heal with wide and "thin" forefoot. anybody have suggestions of starting points? i went through a shit-ton of trial-and-error about four years ago. tia.

Got an out freaking standing 1hr run in around lunchtime today. God I love fall here! Perfectly blue skies, temp in the low 60's with <20% humidity and light breezes.
Brandine: Now Cletus, if I catch you with pig lipstick on your collar one more time you ain't gonna be allowed to sleep in the barn no more!
Cletus: Duly noted.
Have you tried Altra? I don't know about leather upper (does that shit even exist anymore?), but they tend to have a very wide forefoot and zero drop:

Anyone developed piriformis syndrome and successfully put it to bed. I am 5 weeks out from my last run and still know better than to run again.
I am stretching strengthening etc.
I think they quit making them, but I haven't found a better shoe than the Inov8 Trailrocs. The 235 is my favorite trail shoe ever, but my feet get sore in them on long, rocky runs, so I've been running in the 245s. The toe box is a little tight for my tastes, but they stretch out. I didn't like the fit of the Vivobarefoots I had, FWIW.
Remind me. We'll send him a red cap and a Speedo.
I tried the gen2 Lone Peak. I liked them, but they fell apart unacceptably fast. Maybe the new ones are better, but I'm hesitant to buy another pair.
The width of the Inov8s worries me. I'm a full E+ width and have neuroma issues.
Perusing REI's website just now the Topo Athletic Runventure looks promising.
I've had issues with innov-8 uppers developing holes quickly. Not enough to make the shoes unusable, but annoying. I agree that they stretch in the toe area fairly quickly.
I have wide feet and I keep coming back to Saucony. Kinvaras for road. Peregrines and Xodus for trail. Never had an upper fail before the soles were completely trashed. They all have pretty much the same last, but the materials and construction differences make some feel roomier than others. It's worth checking reviews for changes from version to version in terms of toe room as all three shoes have been around for years. I generally buy 10 in Saucony and 9.5 (or even 9) in other brands.
Compared to Vivo or Altra they aren't nearly as wide. But the quality is much better.
I was running in Saucony peregrines this summer. Really liked them until the uppers tore before the soles were shot. I run on a mix of rocky, two track range roads and trails over lava and sage brush. I liked the innov-8s as well, but they too fell apart faster than they should have and I'm not a high mileage runner.
Right now I am running in the La Sportiva Akasha. So far so good, but doesn't quite feel as nice as the peregrine did. Oh well, the quest continues.
saucony omni series for life here. I took a few into the 2-3k mileage range when I was really getting after it.
12 in the rain today- felt good. 2-3 thousand mile in a pair of shoes? I feel like one running in loafers after 300 miles or so-

i was pretty broke in my college years
Had a good summer running and set a nice PR in the Half, and an old man PR in the 5k. Took a little while off the hard training program and did a bunch of hills and a couple smaller fun races, including my first ever Super Sprint Triathlon (after 2 days of panic swim training). Now getting back into a program for a race in November but keeping the hills in it for the long runs to develop leg strength, and logged a 14+ mile run where the top was 1500 feet up from my starting point yesterday. Legs feel beat up today but it was well worth it.

You see, in this world there's two kinds of people, my friend: Those with loaded guns and those who dig. You dig.
That trail looks like "site o". I used to ride that trail. Definitely a steep run!
Last 20 before NYC this past Saturday. Felt great-

My goal was just to finish! lol
Actually, my goals were to never stop, never walk and enjoy every mile.
I did that til mile 23 and all hell broke out in front of Mt. Sinai Hospital.
That slow up hill on 5th Ave. took everything out of me.
Last 3 miles I couldn't enjoy anything.
I just wanted it to end.
So, that's another good reason to do it all over again!
Old Larry!
What is your bib number??!!
Let me track you and maybe pop in here and there to cheer!!

I don't think it is possible to enjoy every mile. I have not full a full, but have done halfs, and no matter how I train, the last two miles are always about just getting it over with.
That said, I have never found the "runners high" so many talk about. Maybe if I where endorphined out of my mind it might be fun.
