Umm....except snowboarding requires some sort of hill and interplay with gravity, while XC skiing requires no hill at all....only snow. There's great XC in Central Park, I'm sure. And during blizzards, you can XC right down the middle of the sidewalk!!!

My mileage had been super low this winter but it was ridiculously nice out yesterday morning so I went down and ran for an hour along the Platte near Chatfield. Temps in the upper 50s, no real wind, puffy white clouds. Winning!

I ran 6 miles yesterday and that was the most mileage since November of 2015.
Not quite there yet, but getting there.

So about 4-5 months ago I started making our glden retreiver run with me, 20-25 miles a week. the vet was fired up as she had lost 4 lbs and gained a lot of muscle.

Thank you. I get so tired of telling people their dog is fat (and by extention, they are fat.) It is always nice to see a nice fit and trim dog
    Keep it up.

Nice. My 10 year old mutt is still game for 2 hour trail runs in cooler temps. She seems to slow down quicker on pavement, and I don't take out for long when it's hot out. Never had a dog age this well before.

With the snow, we are only able to get 3 miles of running in occasionally (no roads). The dogs and I have been spending time xc skiing and snowshoeing out on the desert when I'm not skiing. I'm the only one out here that does this, so I'm always breaking the trail after each storm. Wears all of us out.

Our vet is always happy to see these two girls because they are not obese.

Spent an hour and a half running along the Platte yesterday afternoon. I'm so slow right now but yesterday it didn't matter cuz it was so damned nice out. Even saw a juvenile bald eagle (90% sure that's what he was) checking out a big field from high up in a cottonwood.

I take my 5-year-old, 99# Chocolate Lab for a 3-mile run every morning. Or should I say, he takes me. We get up at 4:15 and I never need an alarm clock - he never misses a day. He's 99# of muscle - no "lab-flab" to speak of, and he doesn't beg.

Now if I could just teach him to sleep in on weekends...

Eventually, I would like to have a dog can run 3-6 miles with me.
    I'm thinking about Australian Shepherd.

A friend from back in the day had an Aussie who could easily do 20+ mile runs with us in the local mountains.
Your dog just ate an avocado!

Boyfriend wants Weimaraner and I love Aussie Shepherd.
    Both seemed good running partners.
For now, there's 17 year old black cat rules the house.

Male Chocolate Labs will. I had a female yellow lab that wouldn't. She'd get two blocks and obsess about smelling everything. Strange how the color makes a difference but it does in my experience. Aussie shepherds for sure. German Shorthair pointers probably could too. Boxers have the energy but not the focus.

My standard collie used to max out around 25-30 miles per day, though 3-6 was more typical. His lower back is going on him these days, though, and he can't run like he used to. He turns 13 this year. I've known smaller dogs with longer running careers. The larger breeds break down earlier.

Ha ha. My black lab will run with me and never seems to tire. If it is above 50 degrees and I try to take the yellow lab running, she looks at me like WTF? Why would I want to do that? I don't even bother once it gets above 50. Now, get an ATV out and she will run along side for miles.

    great runners both

    but

both have reputations for being bad apartment dwellers (anxiety, high drive) -- do your research trying to match with a mellow personality

if one of you works out of the home is probably the best situation

There's no home available less than a million by us. lol

Boyfriend works at night, so he's home most part of day until I come home.
Hope that's good enough for needy dogs.

Trying to start ramping my mileage back up after not running as much over the winter. I suck. But damn is it ever nice out there on the trails right now! Birds chirping, bulbs coming up, crabapples in full bloom.

Out freaking standing! Would love to try that sometime. I'd just need a support rider with my little rtic soft cooler in tow. Anyone wanna help organize the inaugural front range maggot beer half marathon?

first men's league hockey game was tonight, play was pretty meh. but it proved how out of shape I am right now.

need to get on a routine. any of you runners also do more dynamic cardio / agility exercises?

Back in my sprinter days, sure. Plyometrics. Hurdle drills with weighted ankles.

For endurance for hockey, I would get a good baseline of fitness with 15-20 easy miles per week and then start getting into ladders or 200m repeats on the track. And anything that builds core strength. You want to be able to sprint hard for the puck and then recover quickly, right?
