Well they were hoping for a lawyer, but...
Unbelievable.
Right? And this is AFTER the black guy, lying on his back with his hands in the air, is shouting "It's not a gun but a toy truck! Please don't shoot!" I'm sure the implication was "don't shoot HIM" yet they shot the unarmed, prone black guy with his hands in the air.
Then cuffed him.
Yeah, motherfuckers - all lives matter. No matter what the retarded right keeps spewing, Orwell was right: some animals are more equal than others.
He missed his intended target, wounding the guy he is trying to save AND he is a member of their SWAT team. When asked "why did you shoot me" Witnesses said he responded "I dont know". His statement today is "I took this job to save lives and help people. I did what I had to do in a split second to accomplish that and hate to hear others paint me as something I'm not." Ummm, just what is it that you HAD to do? No apologies and double down attitude.
Now this "Attorney of man shot by North Miami police says city wants to settle issue quickly"
"There has been a discussion of a potential settlement, (and) they want to resolve it relatively fast in good faith to let the community know that they take these things seriously, but I'm not at liberty to discuss the terms of the settlement or what we think a potential settlement will be at this point," Napoleon said."
If they wanted to show the community that they are serious, maybe instead of fleecing them for a quick resolution where, tax payers will cover the expense, police will not admit any wrong doing, and victim will have a gag order. Maybe they should think about shit canning their "highly decorated, SWAT team member and hold him ACCOUNTABLE.

One common thread is some of these events is resisting arrest. The guy in Georgia and the lady in Austin both physically resisted the orders and/or arrest by the cops. When you physically resist all bets are off for what the cops will do. The ACLU's advice for handling police stops https://www.aclu.org/know-your-right...-agents-or-fbi specifically says to "Do not interfere with or obstruct the police." If the stop and or cops treatment of you is inappropriate then take it up later but physically resisting is a recipe for trouble and possibly resisting arrest or obstructing an officer charges.
What do you think cops should do - just let everyone go who physically resists? 'I had the mass murder suspect but he resisted arrest, so I let him go'
So, resisting arrest, huh? When was the last time you were arrested for speeding with the aggravating circumstances of not moving your legs fast enough to satisfy a bully cop? Its just a simple speeding ticket, she's scared and not a threat, so why did he escalate? Maybe it's because he's a PIG first and a cop second. Amerikkka, where your constitutional rights are whatever some undereducated redneck with a badge feels like giving you because rights are pretty much useless once you are already dead. Funny how the right wing authoritarians consider the Constitution a sacred inviolable document but also basically don't give a shit when its cops who routinely violate it.

People panic. Continued pressure doesn't help. That she didn't submit and submit fast enough seems more the issue.
Watch it again; it all happens because she gets confused and doesn't move her legs fast enough for him to shut the car door when he wants it shut. So, basically, he decided to teach her a lesson about how you are supposed to cower in fear before him and cater to his ego. She did nothing illegal beyond speeding. He insinuates that she was attempting to give him the slip by pulling into the lot, but that's not really an issue anymore after he's got her stopped and she's provided her info. He thought she was trying to be clever and he couldn't wait to put her into her place, if you ask me. He has the option to charge her with evading arrest or flight, if the facts support it. He does not have the option to teach her a lesson. Officers do not have the authority to judge and punish in the field.

The cop's reaction may have been extreme, but the woman seemed intent on escalating the situation. The conversation at the end showed they both had their own agenda. The comments on that website and here show how polarized people are.
Kind of amusing how much trouble he had trying to cuff a woman half his size. If that were Olympic wrestling I would have judged a draw. That video belongs with the one of the cop doing a flying roll chasing the black teenager at the pool.
She did nothing to justify the cop's actions. We can rationalize that if we were in that situation we would have complied instantly, but when someone grabs you your immediate reaction is to resist, whether that person is a cop or a mugger. It's not something you think about, it's something you do. Also--the cop starts out by barking orders in an angry, hostile tone. So many of these situations could be defused if cops were trained to interact with people in a way that encourages people to comply instead of resist. As it is, too many cops act as if they are trying to provoke the citizen to resist, as if they want the person to resist so they can beat on them.
Working in the ER I saw a lot of obstreperous drunks. A 200# cop can go into the room and get up in the guys face and the guy just gets more belligerent. Then a 100# nurse goes in, talks nice, and calms the guy down. I've seen it over and over again. The cop who is truly confident in his manhood (or womanhood) doesn't need to show it.
New Orleans review, 2011. The last update in 2014 from a follow up review noted poor documentation of use of force, poor oversight, etc.
https://www.justice.gov/sites/defaul...opd_report.pdfThe deficiencies in the way NOPD polices the City are not simply individual, but structural as well. For too long, the Department has been largely indifferent to widespread violations of law and policy by its officers. NOPD does not have in place the basic systems known to improve public safety, ensure constitutional practices, and promote public confidence. We found that the deficiencies that lead to constitutional violations span the operation of the entire Department, from how officers are recruited, trained, supervised, and held accountable, to the operation of Paid Details.
In the absence of mechanisms to protect and promote civil rights, officers too frequently use excessive force and conduct illegal stops, searches and arrests with impunity. In addition, the Department’s culture tolerates and encourages under-enforcement and under-investigation of violence against women.

Detroit PD received this letter from the Feds in 2003. In 2014 the Feds closed the review after finding them compliant in >90% of items reviewed. Whether that progress remains today is unclear. The fact that the same problems have been flagged in different cities over long periods of time suggests they are not unique or isolated, however.
UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,
Plaintiff,
v. ) Case No. 03-72258
CITY OF DETROIT, MICHIGAN / HON. Julian Abele Cook
and the DETROIT POLICE
DEPARTMENT,
Defendants.
https://www.justice.gov/sites/defaul...plaint_613.pdfThe United States brings this action under 42 U.S.C. § 14141 to remedy a pattern or practice of conduct by law enforcement officers of the Detroit Police Department that deprives persons of rights, privileges, and immunities secured or protected by the Constitution or laws of the United States. The defendants, through their acts and omissions, are engaging in a pattern or practice of conduct by Detroit Police Department officers of subjecting individuals to uses of excessive force, false arrests, illegal detentions, and unconstitutional conditions of confinement.
The defendants have failed to adequately train, supervise, and monitor police officers; to investigate, review and evaluate use of force incidents; to investigate alleged misconduct, and discipline officers who are guilty of misconduct; to review and evaluate the basis of seizures and warrantless arrests and secure timely judicial review of such arrests; to protect detainees from undue risks of harm; and to implement effective systems to ensure that management controls adopted by the Detroit Police Department are properly carried out. Accordingly, the United States seeks a judgment granting injunctive and declaratory relief for the defendants’ violations of law.

I guess we can add Kinnicknick and Elkhound Odin to the list of bootlickers and racists. The cop could have just let it go. It was a stop for SPEEDING. He didn't have to make her get back in the car. I've seen cops pull people over for speeding and have them get out and stand on the shoulder on the passenger side of the car for safety's sake. That was nothing more that a power play by a fat, out of shape redneck cop who is afraid of blacks.
The ACLU suggest complying with arrests, even if they are illegal, because they know that some LEOs will use lethal force even if it's not warranted. That doesn't mean it's right, it's just survival. No one should have to feel that way.
AaronWright, one of the polarized dumb shits that can't see both sides.
Best way to disarm a racist, don't act like the stereotype they imagine. Don't want to be viewed as a stupid, fat racist cop, then don't jump on someone half your size and body slam when unnecessary. This shit cuts both ways. Politeness can go a long way, but is in very short supply.
I'm not polarized, I've already posted in this thread that I think not all cops are bad. My comments you are referring to are about this case only. The cop fucked up.
It's hard for someone like that lady to see both sides when she is being treated like a subject rather than a citizen. "Don't act like the stereotype they imagine"? So She/we should just behave? She didn't do anything wrong until the cop started bullying her and then got physical, she should have submitted after that for her own safety. That doesn't mean the cop did anything right. You may not be racist but you do fall in the bootlicker camp.
I never indicated what the cop did was justified. It was wrong and he should be punished. The woman was clever enough to see what was going on and take advantage of the situation. She purposely escalated it to provide her with social media justice as an innocent victim. She continued baiting the cop when he drove her to the station. The stupid cop should have handled the situation differently, so should the woman. Unfortunately, then it wouldn't have ended up being a youtube sensation because regular traffic stops are boring to watch. But you all with your blinders on will only see one side. I guess that is best though as your head might explode if you tried to consider different perspectives.
Nice knee jerk reaction there shitwad. Nothing I said had anything to do with race in any way shape or form. In fact one of the main examples I was thinking about was the white kid who got tased and went into cardiac arrest. Cops were obviously shit heads but resisting arrest when they rightly or wrongly decide to arrest you is in no way going to work out to your interest. Take your complaints to the ACLU or an attorney when they improperly arrest you, don't start physically resisting as it will only turn out worse for you as you give them some leeway to throw you around, taze you, or god forbid shoot you.
So yeah fuck off with your knee jerk racism spew.
You are the one with blinders. The police work for us and should be held to a higher standard dealing with their "customers". We are not their subjects.
She wasn't baiting him, after she sat down he had no reason to escalate the situation by forcing her to put her legs in the car and close the door. Are you really suggesting that part of her agenda was to get body slammed on asphalt by that fat ass? He was stupid enough to answer her questions in the car, what a dumb ass. Too stupid to be a cop. Blaming the victim for being assaulted illustrates your bootlicking and racist tendencies.
You think ANYONE is gonna purposely antagonize/escalate a situation like that with a cop for more clicks? That's is the dumbest thing I have heard today. Congrats
